City of Houston Fire Department (HFD) is the agency that provides fire protection and emergency medical services for the city of Houston, Texas, the fourth largest city in the United States. HFD is responsible for preserving life and property for a population over 2 million in an

area totaling 617 square miles. The Houston Fire Department handles all emergency medical services within the City of Houston and all members of the department are trained in EMS procedures. The firefighters rotate between the fire fighting apparatus and the EMS units from day to day in accordance with the cross training that they receive. There are two levels of EMS certification that the Houston Fire Department recognizes; EMT-Basic and EMT-Paramedic. Station #55 was built in 1963 at the southeastern most city limits at Cullen and Salinsky. Since then it has undergone two facelifts and was reopened in June of 2000. Station 55 houses a Engine, Ladder Truck and a Medic unit.

Harris County's eight elected constables will soon make more than U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance.

Commissioners Court voted Thursday 4-1 to increase the constables' salaries to $305,000, the fourth in a series of raises that have more than doubled their pay in just three years.

The constables have significant political power, in part because they are immensely popular with the many neighborhoods they patrol on dedicated contracts, and they have influence in the Texas Legislature. bit.ly/3TGh6Ys

Today we gather to honor the lifetime of service and line-of-duty cancer-related death of our brother and friend, AFD Fire Specialist Reggie Tait. He was a good friend, a great firefighter, and a true public servant. His death was sudden, tragic, and unexpected.

The AFA and the city are now working together towards the compassionate, fair, and just recognition of his line-of-duty death under Texas law. While this process will take time, we are pleased to say that the city has already begun to pave the way for Brother Tait’s estate to complete his appeal, and we look forward to working with them to bring Reggie and his family the full recognition and benefits he earned and deserves.

Please keep Reggie’s family, friends, and colleagues in your thoughts and prayers as we gather today to honor a great man.
