The Double Nickel City of Houston Fire Department (HFD) is the agency that provides fire protection and emergency medical services for the city of Houston, Texas, the fourth largest city in the United States.
HFD is responsible for preserving life and property for a population over 2 million in an area totaling 617 square miles. The Houston Fire Department handles all emergency medical services within the City of Houston and all members of the department are trained in EMS procedures. The firefighters rotate between the fire fighting apparatus and the EMS units from day to day in accordance with the cross training that they receive. There are two levels of EMS certification that the Houston Fire Department recognizes; EMT-Basic and EMT-Paramedic. Station #55 was built in 1963 at the southeastern most city limits at Cullen and Salinsky. Since then it has undergone two facelifts and was reopened in June of 2000. Station 55 houses a Engine, Ladder Truck and a Medic unit.

Train Your Probie
The training ground is where we make mistakes and learn where some of our areas of improvement are. There is no shame in realizing that some skills might be rusty as long as you understand how to rectify the issue. The onus is then on you to now take the appropriate amount of time to get your skillset back up to speed. Your crew and family depend on it. #trainyourprobie
The results will be made official when the 55th IAFF Convention reconvenes on March 10, 2021.

This week marks the loss of a friend of ours.
This job carries weight. It DOES NOT mean you have to carry it on your own. Please reach out to your local CISM team or to someone you trust. Your friends want you here.
Thanks to Paul Combs
FF Wells and FF Rangel have conspired to ruin the health (and waistlines) of the C shift by making day old donut bread pudding.
Yes, it is absolutely as good as it sounds...
This Leftover Donut Bread Pudding recipe takes uneaten glazed donuts and turns them into a delicious baked dessert casserole.

DALLAS POLICE OFFICER STRUCK AND KILLED BY SUSPECTED DRUNK DRIVER
On February 13, 2021, at about 1:45 a.m., a Dallas officer was blocking the scene of a prior freeway accident in the northbound lanes of North Central Expressway at Walnut Hill Lane. A 32-year-old Black male driver of a four door Kia Forte driving at a high rate of speed collided with the officer while he was standing outside of his marked patrol vehicle with his emergency lights on. The officer was transported to Baylor Hospital where he subsequently died of his injuries. The driver of the Kia Forte was found to be intoxicated and was taken into custody with charges pending. The driver of the Kia Forte did not sustain any injuries. There was a female passenger in the Kia Forte who is currently being interviewed by investigators. She was not injured.

Edzo for IAFF
Our 55th IAFF Convention had record attendance and we charted the course for our great union. The future of #OurIAFF is bright. As a firefighter, I was most proud of the resolutions adopted that protect our health and safety. In all, the delegates assembled adopted 25 resolutions. Check out this video for a quick 2-minute recap of the week. #ReadyToLead #TeamEdzo
