The Double Nickel City of Houston Fire Department (HFD) is the agency that provides fire protection and emergency medical services for the city of Houston, Texas, the fourth largest city in the United States.
HFD is responsible for preserving life and property for a population over 2 million in an area totaling 617 square miles. The Houston Fire Department handles all emergency medical services within the City of Houston and all members of the department are trained in EMS procedures. The firefighters rotate between the fire fighting apparatus and the EMS units from day to day in accordance with the cross training that they receive. There are two levels of EMS certification that the Houston Fire Department recognizes; EMT-Basic and EMT-Paramedic. Station #55 was built in 1963 at the southeastern most city limits at Cullen and Salinsky. Since then it has undergone two facelifts and was reopened in June of 2000. Station 55 houses a Engine, Ladder Truck and a Medic unit.
It’s hard to believe it’s been ten years since the day that would change my life forever. November 21st, 2010 was a day I would die but it was also a day that led to new life.....more life.
The past ten years have been a long and difficult but beautiful journey. A journey of discovering perseverance, purpose and perspective through long, dark and painful nights. A journey of support, love and healing from family, friends and community.
I am thankful for my path because it led me to who and where I am today. We never know what the future holds. All I know is that I am forever grateful to be here and I will never take a single moment, breath or sunrise for granted.
The men and women of Station 55 would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of DC Robert Schlieter, and the crews in D28, during this difficult time...

Houston Fire Department Toy Drive
For many years now, HFD along with business and community volunteers have worked together for one of the largest holiday toy drives in the City of Houston. The history of this toy drive dates back to a Houston school teacher, Lorugene Young, and her legacy lives on.
FF Doyle was a member of Station 55’s family for several years. He had been, most recently, assigned to HFD’s OEC Division.

Playing with flammable limits in a training container. When you balance fuel, oxygen and thermal ballast the result is simply magical!
If you want more info about being able to experiment and play with smoke flammabillity like this, just send me a PM!

Mayor Sylvester Turner and the Houston Fire Department cut fire service at fire stations all over the city today, including at Stations 19, 20, 26, 28, 44 and 51. HFD's staffing crisis continues. More than 400 HFD firefighters have left for better jobs or retirement in the past year and a half. Firefighters are routinely being mandatorily held over at the stations. Some have worked up to 96 straight hours recently. Citizens can reach Houston City Hall at 713.837.0311.

We remember our Gold Star Families on this day..
This simple flag usually has a blue star in it. It signifies a loved one is serving in the military. If this star is gold it means their loved one fell in battle.
On the last Sunday of September since 1936, we dedicate to our gold star mothers and families who have lost. Through this loss, it has created a new and much larger family of those who served along side the fallen. For the moms that have lost, we love you and stand beside you as you carry the burden of living life with a piece of your heart missing.
My undying love and loyalty.

It's an annual tradition in Colorado Springs that has been changed this year due to the COVID –19 pandemic.
Many thanks to all of the men and women that came in from out of town to help staff our apparatus, so HFD members could attend Captain Searcy's services...
Today six Plano firefighters are in Houston to ride Houston fire engines while Houston firefighters pay their respects to a fallen brother. This is the ninth time in fifteen years Plano firefighters have volunteered their own personal time (on their days off) to fill-in at Houston fire stations so that Houston firefighters could attend a memorial service for one of their own. Today is for Captain Tommy Searcy, 45, an 18-year veteran with the Houston Fire Department. He is the third member of Houston Fire Department to pass away due to COVID19. Even on their days off, Plano firefighters provide Professional service with heart – integrity always.
Family and colleagues gathered in northwest Harris County to honor Capt. Tommy Searcy, an 18-year Houston Fire Department veteran who died after battling coronavirus for weeks.
Houston Fire Department Capt. Tommy Searcy respected the danger and stress that accompanied his job. So when his crew at Fire Station 67 created their own version of dodgeball using Nerf guns in their down time, he didn’t hesitate to join them. “He was always just really interested in keeping th...

Redline Responder Foundation
Friends! Thank you all SO much for the continued support of Tommy and his family! With all of the support, we are almost to our $20k mark! Help us get there and pass it by sharing the campaign with your friends and family! We have received support from all over the country and it is truly humbling! We know Tommy would help if the tables were turned!
Tommy remains in the hospital, but is still holding strong and fighting hard. We know he has a long road ahead of him, still, so let's continue to show our #searcystrong support through spreading the word about the campaign.
We are working with Tommy's brother, Tony, on helping build a webpage and will also have some fundraising items through the Redline store that will benefit Tommy directly.
Again, thank you, thank you, thank you! Tommy will be so humbled to know that so many people took the time and effort to show much compassion and support during this trying time.
Check out this amazing picture from his hospital room! How cool is this!? When he wakes up, he is going to be truly amazed.
Stay well! Here is the link to the GoFundMe!
FDNY goes a little old school today...

Hurricane Laura, currently a Category 2 storm, will likely be a Category 4 when it slams into the Texas and Louisiana coasts, the National Hurricane Center says.
