Historic Hollywood Spotlight: Mollie Bailey 🎪
Did you know Historic Hollywood Cemetery is the final resting place of Mollie Bailey, known as the “Circus Queen of the Southwest”?
Born in Alabama, Mollie Bailey traveled throughout the South with the Bailey family circus before eventually bringing the show to Texas. Alongside her husband, Gus Bailey, she helped build what became known as the Mollie A. Bailey Show — a traveling circus that entertained communities across the region for decades.
During the Civil War, Mollie also served as a nurse and entertainer for Confederate troops while traveling with Hood’s Texas Brigade.
After her husband’s death, Mollie continued operating the circus herself, becoming one of the few women of her time to lead a traveling show business.
Her legacy remains an important piece of Texas history and a reminder of the unique stories connected to those laid to rest here at Historic Hollywood Cemetery. 🤍
