The stories of our centennial celebration continue...
The banquet on March 28th reached a heartfelt peak when a beautiful commemorative quilt was unveiled — a patchwork of decades, each square stitched from retired Houston Volunteer Fire Company T‑shirts. Gasps and applause filled the room as faces traced familiar logos and faded colors, memories of past calls and community events coming back to life in cloth.

This tribute, carefully organized by Mike Edwards, honors our centennial by weaving individual histories into a single keepsake that represents service, camaraderie, and continuity. We extend our sincere thanks to Mike and everyone who contributed shirts, time, and care to create this lasting emblem of 100 years of dedication to our community.

On March 28, 2026, the Houston Volunteer Fire Company came together to kick off the celebration of its 100th anniversary with its annual appreciation banquet. This event is held each year for our current members, life members, and their spouses to recognize the hard work, dedication, and commitment that go into serving our company and community.

During the banquet, several members were specially recognized for their outstanding efforts and dedication.

Ronald Sterling received the 2025 Firefighter of the Year Award for his exceptional dedication to serving the community and for always ensuring our trucks and equipment are well maintained and ready to respond. RJ Sterling has also been a great mentor to our Junior Firefighters, helping teach and guide the next generation.

Past Chief Robert Scott received the 2025 President’s Award for his leadership and for improving the Fire Company. This marks the first time in 30 years that Past Chief Scott will not serve as a Line Officer, and we extend a special thank you for all his hard work and dedication to the department.

We would also like to thank the Banquet Committee for hosting another great event to honor our members. A special thank you to the Hartly Volunteer Fire Company for providing coverage while our membership was able to enjoy the banquet.

Stay tune! We have more stories about our banquet that will be coming this week!

Here’s to a great 2026!

In 2026, the Houston Volunteer Fire Company proudly celebrates 100 years of dedicated service to our community.
Since our founding in 1926, generations of volunteers have answered the call—protecting lives, safeguarding property, and standing ready in times of need with courage, commitment, and compassion.
What began as a small group of local citizens determined to serve their neighbors has grown into a vital institution built on tradition, teamwork, and resilience. Over the past century, our members have faced countless challenges, embraced advancements in emergency response, and strengthened the bonds that unite our community.
Our centennial is not only a milestone—it is a tribute to every firefighter, auxiliary member, and supporter who has contributed to our legacy. It is also an opportunity to reflect on our history, honor those who came before us, and inspire future generations to carry our mission forward.
As we commemorate 100 years of service, we invite our community to join us in celebrating this remarkable journey and looking ahead to the next century of dedication and excellence.
100 Years of Service. A Legacy of Commitment. A Future of Promise.
