🐾 Meet Skylor 🐾

This handsome man is ready to find a home! Skylor is very affectionate, but does take a minute to warm up. Here at the shelter he is what we call a "wall-flower". He is interested in you, but takes a bit of time to warm up. He becomes more social everyday. His favorite past time, when not being pet, is to hang out in one of the boxes on the wall and oversee our lobby area. Skylor does love to bet pet, but will also let you know when he has received enough. He also makes for a great conversation, as he is one chatty cat!

All of our available animals, like Skylor, and our adoption application can be found here, https://www.indy.gov/activity/adopt-a-pet.

This weekend we are hosting an adoption event to help our animals find homes! You can schedule your weekend appointment here, https://www.indy.gov/activity/adoption-event-at-the-shelter_unpublished_0_unpublished_0

❄️ Ready to go home with you! ❄️

Hello, I'm Cami! I am about three years old and one of the sweetest dogs you'll ever meet! I take treats very gently and walk well on a leash. The volunteers here tell me that I am the biggest sweetheart and that I love affection and pets from my humans. I have done well with dogs my size in the past! I do need a home with no small dogs or cats. I have lived with children before, but little ones make me nervous sometimes. Older children would be best suited for me. I would love a home for the holidays.

This weekend we will be hosting an adoption event! To schedule an appointment for this weekend only go here, https://www.indy.gov/activity/adoption-event-at-the-shelter_unpublished_0_unpublished_0

Can't wait until this weekend? You can put in an adoption application at https://www.indy.gov/activity/adopt-a-pet and an adoption counselor will contact you to set up an appointment and answer any questions you have.

❄️ Ready to go home for the holidays ❄️

My name is Ravenpaw and I am a neutered 3 year old pup. The volunteers here tell me how handsome I am. I love attention and affection too! I came to IACS as an owner surrender due to no fault of my own. I have previously lived with cats and got along with them. I am dog selective, and it is recommended that I go to a home without other dogs. I need a home without children, as they make me nervous. I am ready for my forever home. Come meet me!

Ready to meet Ravenpaw? You can put in an adoption application at https://www.indy.gov/activity/adopt-a-pet and an adoption counselor will contact you to set up an appointment and answer any questions you have.

Due to the success of our adoption event this past Saturday we have decided to extend it to this weekend as well! Sign-up here. https://www.indy.gov/activity/adoption-event-at-the-shelter_unpublished_0_unpublished_0

❤️Meet one of our wonderful volunteers that does a bit of everything... We are so thankful to have Jerri as part of our team ❤️

"While living in Colorado, I became active as a shelter volunteer and fostering and had several roles at a couple different shelters. I also had the opportunity to visit and volunteer multiple times at the amazing Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, UT and after that I was hooked.

During my time in Colorado one of the most significant things I did was weekend dog fostering. It gave a dog a chance to get out of the shelter into a home for the weekend and gave the shelter so much information about how the dog did away from the shelter. It was sometimes very difficult to return the dog but knowing the dog had a huge break and extra TLC always seemed to make the dog so much more relaxed and adoptable.

When I moved back to Indianapolis, I knew IACS was the place I wanted to be. It has the most at risk animals in the city and desperately needed help. I started soon after the move and have been involved in many different aspects as a volunteer and fostering. There are so many needs and ways to contribute and it has been so very rewarding.

In addition to fostering kittens and cats, I'm currently on the behavior and enrichment team to work with and improve the quality of life for the dogs during their time at the shelter between homes. The stress of the shelter for dogs can have such a significant impact on their behavior that some dogs need extra support. Spending quality time while walking dogs is such an important part of the interaction. I'm also involved in helping with off-site adoption meet and greets and love to be able to get a dog out of the shelter for some freedom time. IACS currently only allows volunteers to get dogs out for Freedom days so I try to take the opportunity. During our freedom time we can take a walk in the park, get some chicken nuggets, cheeseburger and a pupcup. It's so nice spoiling each one with individual attention.

Another aspect I started this year is being a dog foster mentor. I am not able to foster dogs in my current situation so I am available to other dog fosters to help with suggestions for training and integrating a foster dog into a home. This has been a role that wasn't as important in the past but with more people working from home interested in fostering it has become essential. The staff and volunteers at IACS are an amazing group of dedicated people and everyone who has a part is so important. Doing laundry and picking up poop around the runs is one of the most helpful things anyone can do to get started and is so appreciated. Spending a few hours a week at the shelter has been a great way to escape the crazy world and get some unconditional love from some four legged furry friends." #volunteer #savealife

❤️Are you ready to fall in love?❤️

Bean is a long termer here at the shelter and is ready for his forever home. Bean is a 6 year old, 55 lb, neutered male. He is a gorgeous guy with a crooked smile who loves to be around his people. He is very calm and likes other dogs similar in size. Although he has never had an issue with any dog he has met here (and he has met a lot!) he would probably most enjoy another calm, chill partner in crime. Bean is a little TOO interested in cats and small animals, including small dogs, and is not recommended to go home with these. He walks well on a leash and is just as happy outside as he is indoors by your side. He gets very excited eating his treats and can be a little grabby at times. All in all, Bean is just a good ol' boy who wants to spend the rest of his life by your side.

Ready to meet Bean? You can put in an adoption application at https://www.indy.gov/activity/adopt-a-pet and an adoption counselor will contact you to set up an appointment and answer any questions you have.

🐶✨Doodle Buggie is one of our long term residents, being at our shelter for over 90 days! One of our volunteers took her out for the day and here's how it went🐶✨

"Let me introduce you to Doodle Buggie, she is such a cutie! Doodle Buggie is a 63lb mix and came in as a stray so it is unknown how old she is, but if I had to guess I would say maybe three. I'm so puzzled why this sweet girl has been at the shelter for over 95 days. She is looking for her best friend, someone she can cuddle with on the couch, take long drives with (as she is an angel in the car) and go on walks with where she can stop and smell the roses. 🌹

I took this sweet girl for a well- deserved break from the shelter. Our first stop was Garfield Park. On our way there she laid down in the back seat and was snoozing. I can't blame her, it must be hard to get some zzz's 💤in the loud shelter environment. She was wonderful on the leash and didn't pull. She loves to explore and would love to go hiking with somebody as she also loved checking out the creek. It was a perfect day with the most perfect girl.

On our way back to the shelter, we had to stop by McDonalds to get the queen a hamburger which she took very gently and greatly appreciated it! Lastly, she got a nice bath so she will smell good and look good to make a good first impression on her future adopters. She fully cooperated and was a sweet heart while taking her bath. Doodle Buggie will make a wonderful companion for someone who doesn't have other dogs."

🎊 Happy Tails🎊

Today's Happy Tails is about Bentley,

"I adopted Bentley (previously named Julius) from IACS In the beginning of 2019. When I got him, he was extremely scared and very fearful of everything - sudden movements, loud noises, men, everything! IACS said he was picked up by a police officer as a stray behind a dumpster and had no other previous info.

Fast forward to now and Bentley has grown so much! It’s taken a lot of patience and love, but he has learned how to be a dog. He loves playing with toys, playing with his brother Murphy, taking looooong naps, and puppy ice cream! Thanks IACS!"

Please help! My dog got away from my sister's place when she was babysitting him in the Lawrence Township area. He has been spotted as far north as 75th Street, but the last sighting was 10 days ago. He is a pomeranian mix and is the size of a chihuahua. I don't know if he has been picked up or if he is still out there. We are on a number of sites, have been visiting shelters and putting up signs, and are at a loss. We can be reached at 317 410 0517.
The babies are here that pits left uind foot is really swollen he can't walk on it She used to be so white soft and fluffy . You can tell both are being abused wherever they are . Also the white female doesn't let the male injured pit eat . The pit follows the white one everywhere she goes and they are always together They aren't here long enough to get them help and they come at different times so can't plan anything. Hello! I follow your page and IACS Rescue. I see many unfortunate posts about animals being surrendered due to financial hardship faced by the owner. Does IACS have a program where donors can sponsor an animal that would allow the pet to stay with their family?
