This SMP Sunday: Have you noticed Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) listed on your Medicare statement? Remote Patient Monitoring is a Medicare-covered service that allows health care providers to monitor certain chronic conditions using medical devices that collect and share health information from your home.

While RPM can be a valuable tool for some beneficiaries, you should only see these charges if you agreed to the service and actually received it.

When reviewing your Medicare Summary Notice (MSN) or Explanation of Benefits (EOB), ask yourself:
✔ Did I agree to participate in Remote Patient Monitoring?
✔ Did I receive and use the monitoring equipment?
✔ Did my provider explain this service to me?

If the answer is no, or you don't recognize the charge, don't ignore it. Unexpected RPM claims could be the result of a billing error or potential Medicare fraud.

Review your Medicare statements regularly, ask questions if something doesn't look right, and contact your local Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) for free, confidential assistance. Together, we can help protect your Medicare benefits and stop fraud before it happens.
