This morning, William Bell School 60 was thrilled to host forty amazing volunteers for their 19th annual Global Day of Service! 🌳🧹✨

While tens of thousands of Lilly team members worldwide set their out-of-office status to support local communities, our crew spent the morning mulching, weeding, trimming trees, washing windows, organizing clothing, and cleaning lockers. We got an incredible amount of work done, and we are so grateful for their hard work. We truly value this partnership!

We believe children express themselves in many ways, such as drawing, acting, music and clay. We use these languages as ways for students to learn... In Ms. Meredith's 1st grade room, one student suggested making puppets to expand on their literacy lesson. It started as just characters from their stories, but soon Spiderman and many mom and dad characters joined in to!

Ms. Hofmann's 3rd grade class celebrated International Dot Day with the book The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. Students wore something with dots as part of the celebration. They are doing an author study of Peter Reynolds to learn about his writing style and how he shares his writing.

What a week in sports for our Bulldogs! Cross Country had their first meet last Monday. Our athletes placed 1st, 4th, 7th, 17th, 19th and 21st!

The boys' volleyball team won their game on Thursday! See comments for a video of the winning point.

The cross country team and the running club participated in the Kids 5k Monumental Run on Saturday! It was amazing to see our runners crossing the finish line at the Lucas Oil Stadium! What an accomplishment!

An important practice in a Reggio inspired school is the act of documentation. This practice makes the process of learning visible in the classroom and school environment. Last year in Ms. Stewart’s STEM class, 2nd graders explored the question “How does Japanese fabric art connect to our geometry learning?” as they created their own kinusaiga project. Using their geometry knowledge, students designed their own kinusaiga boards and completed them using fabric scraps after learning about this unique art form. As a culminating project, both classes worked on 2 large kinusaiga boards. We are excited to share the documentation for this project, and one of the large boards now have a display place in our building for all to see! The other board was auctioned off at our annual Bulldog Bash event to raise money for our program!
