Yesterday, while many people were enjoying events on Smith Lake, members of the Smith Lake Task Force were doing what we've done for decades, training to answer the call when someone needs help.
Our team is made up of personnel from surrounding sheriff's offices, emergency management agencies, police departments, fire departments, and specialized dive and recovery teams. We train together at times like these because emergencies don't wait for practice.
Whether it's a missing boater, a drowning, a storm response, or another emergency on the water, our goal is simple: to be ready.
Many people are surprised to learn that the Smith Lake Task Force operates without dedicated funding. Every training day, every rescue boat on the water, and every piece of specialized equipment represents the commitment of our member agencies.
We appreciate everyone who supports water safety and those who encourage responsible recreation on Smith Lake. We appreciate the dedicated men and women of the Smith Lake Task Force working alongside our our law enforcement, fire, EMA, and dive team partners.
We hope you never need us, but we'll continue training so we're ready if you do.
