Wishing you a meaningful Juneteenth on this beautiful day!

Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the end of slavery here in the United States. It stands as a reminder of not just the emancipation of hundreds of millions of slaves, but the culture and achievements of Black Americans across the country.

Our Individuals Served and staff recently spent the day visiting the Western Michigan University Dinosaur Park and Geology Museum, and everyone had a great time!

The group enjoyed exploring the dinosaur displays, checking out fossils and unique rock collections, and learning more about the world around us in a fun, hands-on environment.

A big thank you to Western Michigan University Geological and Environmental Sciences for a great and educational experience.

May 15 is International Family Day, a reminder to celebrate the people who support and grow with us through every stage of life. Whether your family is big, small, blended, chosen, or somewhere in between, today is about making memories together and appreciating those connections.

And if you're looking for a fun way to celebrate the occasion or just get out in the community with your loved ones, here are some great ideas!

• Spend the afternoon outdoors at Markin Glen Park or Milham Park with a picnic, a walk, or a game together.

• Explore hands-on exhibits and family learning experiences at Air Zoo Flight Discovery Center.

• Take a nature walk and reconnect outdoors through activities hosted by the Kalamazoo Nature Center's Urban Nature Park.

• Looking ahead to the weekend? Kalamazoo Parks is hosting a free, family-friendly World Migratory Bird Day celebration on May 16 with guided walks, live birds, art, and community activities.

No matter how you celebrate, the best memories are often the simple ones 🥰

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and THIS week is Mental Health Awareness Week. Check out local events to help promote our community organizations.

This year's focus is to promote mental health by Reducing Stigma and Fostering Community Support, which is what CLO is all about. Nobody is perfect and we all have bad days. It's when we let ourselves slip and lose our support networks where people get stuck, which is why the theme at Mental Health America is "More Good Days, Together".

Wear green this week to show your support. Together, let's improve the lives of those around us.

Here's to the moms, the bonus moms, the grandmas, foster moms, and every wonderful caretaker in between. Happy Mother's Day to our friends and families, we hope you get to relax, enjoy the nice weather, and do something fun! From CLO to you, we love and APPRECIATE you!

05/07/2026

We're challenging those we serve AND our staff to participate in CLO's first ever "Waist Watchers" challenge. Participants have set their goals on healthy living, weight loss (or gain!) and cementing better habits to improve their quality of life. Each week we're doing additional challenges to earn points towards prizes!
