FFEO Flemming and FF Beyer had an awesome time joining the kids at Jump Start Childcare for their Summer Splash event!

Our crew hooked a fire hose up to the hydrant and gave the kids the ultimate summertime sprinkler experience — and judging by all the smiles and laughs everyone had a blast!

Events like this are one of our favorite ways to connect with the youngest members of our community, let them see their firefighters up close, and create some great memories along the way.

Who knows… after getting a chance to help with the hose, we may have even inspired a few future members of the fire service!

See something that doesn't look right? Give us a call!

Today, we received several calls about a hydrant flowing water on W. Q Avenue, just west of 12th Street. We appreciate everyone who took the time to report it.

After checking the situation, we confirmed that the hydrant was equipped with a hydrant flusher, a device that automatically flows water for maintenance and water quality purposes. While it may look unusual, the large amount of water coming from the hydrant is completely normal when these devices are in use.

If you notice a red box attached to the side of a hydrant, that's a good indication that a hydrant flusher is operating as intended.

We investigated the situation and found no safety concerns. We would much rather respond and find everything is okay than have someone hesitate to report a potential problem.

Thank you for helping us keep Texas Township safe. We are proud to serve such an outstanding community.

🚒 A Day in the life of Your Texas Township Fire Department

When most people think of firefighters, they think of emergency calls. And they're right, that's our top priority. But fortunately, emergencies don't happen 24/7... although some days it certainly feels like they do!

Our shift begins at 0700 hours (7:00 a.m.), and each duty crew is assigned a variety of responsibilities to help keep our community safe. Today's assignment was continuing our annual Life Safety Inspections, an important program that helps ensure fire alarms, suppression systems, emergency exits, and other critical safety features are functioning as designed.

These inspections help business and property owners identify potential hazards before they become emergencies. In fact, according to FEMA, more than 40% of businesses affected by a major disaster such as a fire never reopen. Prevention truly matters.

🏨 Today's inspection was scheduled for 1300 hours (1:00 p.m.) at the TownePlace Suites by Marriott. Our crew had completed about a floor and a half when the inspection came to an abrupt pause.

🚨 Duty called.

The crew quickly switched from their Life Safety role back to what we're always prepared to do: respond to emergencies. Multiple incidents occurred at the same time, requiring an immediate response.

Thankfully, our dedicated POC (Paid-On-Call) personnel also answered the call, ensuring there were no gaps in emergency coverage for our community.

Whether we're inspecting buildings, training, educating the public, or responding to emergencies, our mission remains the same: protecting lives and property.

🚒 Training for the Call We Hope Never Comes 🚒

Many homes in Texas Township are large, located a significant distance off the road, or have no nearby water supply. Those challenges make training essential for our firefighters.

We know that if the tragedy of a fire strikes, it is often one of the worst days in a property owner's life. Whether the goal is to save a life, rescue a pet, or protect a home and treasured belongings, we train continually so we are ready when that call comes.

Recently, our crews focused on stretching hose lines. A crosslay may carry 200 feet of hose, but how far does that actually get you when the house sits well off the roadway? Will there be enough hose to reach the seat of the fire? Once the line is charged with water, how difficult is it to move through hallways, around corners, and up stairs?

There is only one way to answer those questions and prepare for the real thing:

TRAIN. TRAIN. TRAIN.

Every drill builds confidence, sharpens skills, and helps ensure that when seconds matter most, your firefighters are ready to respond.
