When I asked Secretary Hegseth if he would deploy troops to polling places under an unlawful order, his answer was “Joe Biden.”

That is not a clear answer rooted in the Constitution and the law.

During NDAA markup, I made clear: our military exists to defend the Constitution, not to police elections or serve any president’s political interests. I’ll keep using every tool available to protect free and fair elections.

The National Defense Authorization Act is a critical vehicle for ensuring national security, but my top priority will always be making sure those goals respect the people, land, and culture of Hawaiʻi.

My goal in these negotiations was to keep land condemnation entirely out of this defense bill. Working with the leadership of our committee, we are ensuring federal overreach is stopped at the starting line and that any future for our training lands must be built on good-faith negotiation with our local community. But our work is far from over.

After years of nuclear testing in the Pacific, military bombing of our lands, and the poisoning of our drinking water at Red Hill, Hawaiʻi and the Pacific deserve better than to be used, once again, as a proving ground for an untested nuclear program.

We should not rush to deploy transportable nuclear micro-reactors anywhere until we know more about their safety, reliability, and impact.

Today, I joined my colleagues on the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party to remember the Tiananmen Square Massacre and honor the students, workers, and everyday civilians who courageously stood up to demand democracy, freedom, and the right to be heard.

Their bravery still echoes around the world and is a reminder to defend democracy, human rights, and free speech wherever they are threatened.

Trump thinks he’s helping farmers by lowering tariffs on agriculture equipment from 25% to 15%.

I introduced the Tariff Free Farming Act to make that number 0%. Yes, 0%. Let’s get rid of ALL the tariffs.

Congress can make the choice to lift these insane taxes off the backs of our farmers and actually lower the cost of food for our families.

Returned to Paʻakea Road with Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation and the Navy to follow up on flooding near the dip in the road and continue working toward solutions for the community.

We walked through the problem areas, discussed how to better manage the water draining into the roadway, and made sure residents’ concerns were heard directly by the partners involved.

Mahalo to the community members who continue to raise concerns, share local knowledge, and help keep the focus on long-term fixes.

Mahalo to the Institute of Pacific Islands Forestry team in Hilo for welcoming me and sharing the science behind the critical work they do to protect Hawaiʻi’s forests, watersheds, native species, and communities from invasive species, disease, and wildfire.

Closing this facility would put decades of research and protection work at risk. At a time when Hawaiʻi is already facing growing threats to forest health and wildfire resilience, I’m fighting to keep this facility open, staffed, and rooted here in Hawaiʻi.

Grateful to spend time with The Food Basket in Hilo and the volunteers helping pack, sort, and distribute food directly to families across Hawaiʻi Island. Every bag packed and every car loaded helps families put food on the table with care and aloha.
As groceries, gas, housing, and basic needs continue to rise, food security has to be treated like what it is: a basic promise we make to one another.
