Duplin County 4-H

Duplin County 4-H In 4-H, young people make new friends, develop new skills, become leaders and help shape their communities.

4-H is a community of young people across America who are learning leadership, citizenship and life skills. 4-H is about having fun, learning, exploring and discovering. More than 208,000 youth get involved in 4-H through community or project clubs, special interest programs, school enrichment programs, in after school programs, and through our Operation Military Kids program. These youth live in

cities, suburbs, small towns and rural communities.

4-H gives youth a chance to explore their own interests - from photography to computers, from building rockets to raising animals. A list of 4-H projects is available online by visiting our 4-H Curriculum webpage. They go places from district retreats to camp, to state and national conferences. They learn to be outstanding citizens and excellent leaders. In 4-H, youth learn life skills such as public speaking, decision-making, organizational/planning, leadership, teamwork, record keeping and communications skills.

Thanks to North Carolina 4-H Youth Livestock Program for hosting a skillathon clinic yesterday! Youth learned about balancing a diet, breed identification, pig reproduction, how to ultrasound, and about how the state contest will be laid out.

Thanks to John Garner and crew at the NC State Castle Hayne Research Farm for hosting us today for blueberry education & glean. 118 # were harvested by our 4-H’ers and thanks to our FCS Agent, Rachel, they were delivered to a Duplin County Food bank. Ended the trip with lunch at the park. Make sure & check out the bear print we saw!

Another fun day of 4-H summer workshops!! Today was Basic Life Skills 101! Thank you to Mr. Gene Foster at the county garage for teaching our 4-H’ers basic car maintenance! We then came back to the office and the 4-H’ers learned how to write a check and sort and wash laundry! 🍀
