Ketchikan Indian Community and Tribal Health Clinic - KIC

Ketchikan Indian Community and Tribal Health Clinic - KIC Purpose of the Page:

This page will be used for communication between the Ketchikan Indian Community (KIC) organization and its Tribal Members.

Ketchikan Indian Community (KIC) is a sovereign nation and federally-recognized Indian Tribe serving 6,600+ Tribal citizens in our Tribal Health Clinic, as well as our Social Services, Education & Training, Housing, and Cultural Resources departments. We will share public information in regards to announcements and news, as well as sharing pictures and videos of our employees actively serving our

community. We hope to increase communication between the organization and the Tribal community in a professional and respectful manner. This is a discussion forum for the Ketchikan Indian Community (KIC) and its members. It is not a channel for bullying or ranting. We encourage those with concerns to contact us directly so that we might work together towards solutions. While it is our intention to never ban individuals from our page, if content becomes abusive or inflammatory, we will remove that content and block the offending users so as to allow constructive and beneficial conversations. While this is an open forum, it's also a family friendly one, so please keep your comments and wall posts clean. In addition to keeping it family friendly, we ask that you follow our posting guidelines. If you don't comply, your message will be removed. We hope you'll never have cause to complain about KIC services or activities, but we're open to any and all feedback and will do our best to correct the situation. Since KIC operates a medical clinic we are required to follow Federal regulation in regards to patient privacy (HIPAA). Other areas of our organization have similar requirements in regards to handling of private information. Therefore we will ask you to send us appropriate details in a private channel such as email or phone call. Please be aware that we cannot discuss personal and private matters in a public channel such as our Facebook wall, so repeated complaints and criticisms of KIC, employees, members or services will not be tolerated. Posting and Moderation Guidelines:

• Please make sure you comply with Facebook’s Terms of Use (http://www.facebook.com/terms.php).
• Please do not post personal photographs or video content without the written consent of all persons and KIC. If a photo or video is posted to the KIC page you agree to granting KIC permission to use the photo or video for any non-profit informational or promotional material or publication.
• Please note that if you are a KIC employee, Tribal Council member or a member of a KIC Committee, or you are affiliated with KIC in any way, we welcome your posts, but you are not authorized to speak on behalf of the organization. You should keep in mind the KIC Social Media Policy (4/10/2013).
• For your security, please refrain from posting your personal information on Facebook. Remember, this is a public place. Posts containing personally identifiable information of any member or KIC employee may be removed. This includes, but is not limited to: names, address, telephone numbers, email addresses and medical information.
• Posts that are blatantly off topic may be removed.
• Be kind to other members of this community, and avoid using obscene, defamatory, hateful, discriminatory or offensive language, comments or images. Personal attacks will not be tolerated.
• We do not allow graphic, obscene, explicit or racial comments or submissions nor do we allow comments that are abusive, hateful or intended to defame anyone or any organization.
• Please understand this is a community for people to share news and information about KIC. If you post information that advertises other products or that is not relevant to KIC, your post may be removed.
• We do not allow "bumping" content--that is to say, posts that serve to repeat existing issues and bring them to the top of the wall.
• You participate at your own risk, taking personal responsibility for your comments, your username and any information provided.
• KIC's community managers may not be permitted to discuss or communicate on certain topics. If this happens they will direct you to the appropriate person or contact. Questions or issues may be submitted to [email protected].

𝑺𝒕𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒏𝒆𝒙𝒕 𝒘𝒆𝒆𝒌: 𝐁𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐭 𝐈!

KIC is excited to provide an opportunity to study the Tlingit language, either for college credits or because it's something you'd like to do. Beginning Tlingit I will cover the first six chapters of Lingít G̲unéi Sh Tóo Dultóow Xʼúxʼ Workbook for Beginning to Study Lingít, by Dr. Lance Twitchell.

Lingít Yoo X̱ ʼatángi is the traditional language of the Tlingit people. This course focuses on the foundations of comprehension and speaking. It introduces the sound system and alphabet of the language, and then focuses on building vocabulary, learning phrases, and basic grammatical structures.

Optional college credits are offered through the University of Alaska Southeast, but you do not need to be a college student to take this course. Classes are scheduled from 1-3 p.m. Monday through Friday from June 15 through July 24.

Classes will be held in the upstairs classroom at 615 Stedman St. To register, please visit https://bit.ly/KICTlingit, call (907) 228-9487, or email [email protected].
