On this day in 1863, West Virginia was admitted to the Union as the 35th state. The day has been a formal holiday in the state since 1927.

Juneteenth — celebrated annually on June 19th — is a holiday that recognizes the historic day when Major General Gordon Granger rode into Galveston, Texas, carrying a decree officially ending slavery back in 1865. The declaration led to an outpouring of spontaneous celebrations and gatherings from which Juneteenth was born.

A huge thank you to everyone that came out to the park for our Summer Reading Kick-off Party!! 🎉 We had an amazing time hanging out with all of our readers!

We would also like to thank Community Trust Foundation for their generous donation to our Summer Reading Program. Their support helps us enjoy activities with our readers all summer long!
