Colington Volunteer Fire Department

Colington Volunteer Fire Department This was quite a broad geographical area to cover, so in 1971, a station was built to meet the needs of the growing number of residents in Colington.

The Mission of the Colington Volunteer Fire Department is to improve the quality of life for residents and visitors to the Colington community through the efficient delivery of fire protection, basic medical and life safety services. Originally, Colington Fire Department was a district of the Kitty Hawk Volunteer Fire Department, which at that time responded to fires in the villages of Duck, South

ern Shores, Kitty Hawk and Colington. In 1981, due to tremendous growth in the community, the Colington Volunteer Fire Department was formed and a state charter was granted in 1982. Since that time, what was once a small, dedicated group of individuals with minimal equipment is now a combination Fire Rescue agency employing 9 full time staff and over 25 volunteers with modern apparatus and equipment. A Board of Directors protects the financial interests of the department, in cooperation with Dare County. The CVFD is quite busy. Our base is made up of a strong group of volunteer and career personnel protecting the most populated unincorporated area in the county. As of the 2014 census, Colington had a population of 4,179 residents. While we are primarily supported by a fire tax district, we also obtain additional funding through fundraisers and weekly BINGO. Bingo is held every Wednesday. Doors open at 5:30 and play begins at 6:30 so come out and support us!

The quickest and most efficient way to get help when you need it is to know your exact location.

🚒 Take note of the street address of your accommodations—not the house name.
🚒 Pay attention to the street you access the beach from, the beach access name or what milepost you are closest to. Every second counts in an emergency!
🚒 If available, send someone to meet the first responders at the nearest access point to help emergency responders locate you quickly.

Backyard fireworks aren’t just risky; they can scare our furry friends. The loud noises and bright lights can make pets anxious or even cause them to run away. This , keep everyone safe (including your pets!) by enjoying a professional fireworks show instead.
