Municipal Technical Advisory Service A. The purpose of this MTAS social media site is to serve as a mechanism for communication between MTAS and its customers. B.

Founded in 1949 and part of the University of Tennessee's Institute for Public Service, we provide technical assistance to municipal governments within the state of Tennessee. All postings are subject to review and removal by MTAS under the circumstances outlined below. The following content is not allowed and will be immediately removed and may subject the poster to banishment from all MTAS social media sites:

•Comments not topically related to the particular topic, idea or thread being commented upon;
•Profane language or content;
•Obscene images;
•Content that promotes, fosters, or perpetuates discrimination on the basis of race, creed, color, age, religion, gender, marital status, status with regard to public assistance, national origin, physical or mental disability or sexual orientation;
•Sexual content or links to sexual content;
•Solicitations of commerce;
•Illegal conduct or encouragement of such;
•Information that may tend to compromise the safety or security of the public or public systems; or
•Content that violates a legal ownership interest of any other party. Any MTAS social media site is subject to the Tennessee’s Public Records Act (T.C.A. § 10-7-101, et seq.) and no social media site shall be used to circumvent or otherwise violate this law.

Take a look at the inaugural meeting of the East Tennessee Mayors Association! Sixteen mayors from the grand division joined together to hear an address from the Mayor of Knoxville, regarding issues and challenges in the area. Special thanks to Tennessee Municipal Bond Fund for sponsoring the lunch and Kingston Mayor Tim Neal and Harriman Mayor Wayne Best for their vision in starting this organization with MTAS.

The PULSE TN crew took on “the 901” for Grand Division Meeting 2, and it was a good one as they explored the Grand Challenge: Advancing K-12 Education!

Day 1: The cohort heard from leaders, practitioners, and partners across Tennessee who are moving the needle through public-private partnerships in education, whole-child and wraparound services, and efforts focused on literacy, academic achievement, and developing capable citizens.

Day 2: We spent time with our friends at Bridges, USA, experiencing Memphis through the lens of some of its youngest citizens. We explored their space, learned more about the work they’re doing to develop young leaders, and dug into literacy initiatives and ideas our cohort members can adapt and take back home to their own communities.

And now…we’re down to one final stop. Next up: East Tennessee.

In October, we’re bringing the PULSE TN Leadership Intensive to historic downtown Greeneville to unpack our final UT Grand Challenge: Strengthening Rural Communities.

And this one will be extra special, as we’ll also celebrate the inaugural cohort with their program graduation and hear how they’ll carry the experience forward through their Strengths-in-Action project pitches

The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is updating its Statewide Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP), which will guide transportation needs and priorities through 2055.
TDOT needs your help! This year, TDOT will host several online and in-person engagement opportunities. Your input will help shape the 2055 LRTP.

🏆 Big news! The Tennessee Chapter of the American Public Works Association (APWA) has earned the prestigious Presidential Acknowledgement for Chapter Excellence (PACE) Award!

This national honor recognizes chapters that go above and beyond in nine key areas — from finance management and membership development to community outreach, advocacy, and education. Great customer service starts with investing in the people who serve the community!

MTAS Training & Development Consultant Leah Frazier spent the day yesterday with Town of Smyrna, TN - Local Government employees for a customized customer service training. Participants were engaged throughout the session, sharing experiences, discussing real-world challenges, and exploring ways to create positive interactions with the people they serve.

We appreciate the Town of Smyrna’s commitment to investing in its employees and strengthening the experience of its community members. Thank you to everyone who participated and made it a great session!
