Knox County, Tennessee was created on June 11, 1792 by Governor William Blount from parts of Greene and Hawkins counties, and has the distinction of being one of only eight counties created during territorial administration. It is one of nine United States counties named for American Revolutionary War general and first United States Secretary of War Henry Knox. Parts of Knox County later became Blount (1795), Anderson (1801), Roane (1801), and Union (1850) counties.

At yesterday’s meeting, we shared updates to previously released dimensional standards (articles 4-7), new Module D articles, and a second draft zoning map.

A recording of the meeting and all materials are posted at AdvanceKnox.org/UDO/feedback

Each Module D article has its own survey, so you can take one or all of them. Please provide this feedback by Wednesday, August 12, 2026.

The second draft zoning map allows you to compare your property’s current and proposed zoning and provide comments. It also allows you to compare changes from the first draft zoning map. Map comments can be made through Monday, August 31, 2026.

Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs' Weekly Update

It’s Friday. Time for another weekly update.

This week, I traveled to Franklin to take part in the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce & Industry’s Infrastructure Summit. I was on a panel which also consisted of Hamilton County Mayor Weston Wamp, Nashville and Davidson County Mayor Freddie O’Connell, and Memphis Mayor Paul Young. We discussed issues such as transportation and mobility, water and wastewater, and education and workforce development. Thank you to the Chamber and my fellow mayors!

I also spoke at the Associated General Contractors membership meeting about Operation Hero’s Hill. AGC and many of its members have played a huge part in Hero’s Hill, and I really appreciate their support.

I was honored to attend the unveiling of Roddie Edmonds’ pillar at the East Tennessee Veterans Memorial in World’s Fair Park. Master Sergeant Edmonds is East Tennessee’s most recent recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor, recognizing his actions while a N**i prisoner of war during World War 2. Even at gunpoint, Edmonds refused to allow the Jewish-American soldiers under his command to be singled out for persecution and, likely, death. Edmonds is the only person ever to be awarded the Medal of Honor and also recognized by the Yad Vashem, The World Holocaust Remembrance Center, as Righteous Among the Nations.

SchoolMania takes place next Friday, July 24, at Chilhowee Park. The event starts at 3pm and ends at 6 or until supplies run out. Thank you to all our generous sponsors and volunteers.

Don’t forget, early voting for the state and federal primary elections and the Knox County and Town of Farragut general elections started today and runs through Saturday, August 1st. Election Day is August 6th. Please go to the election commission website for polling locations and hours, sample ballots, and other information.

We can't wait to welcome everyone to the 8th Annual SchoolMania next Friday at Chilhowee Park, starting at 3:00 PM!

A huge thank you to Ole Ben Franklin Motors for their incredible generosity. This year, they doubled their donation from $10,000 to $20,000, helping make it possible for us to offer backpacks at SchoolMania for the first time ever!

We're also incredibly grateful for the support of all of our sponsors and community partners. Together, we'll distribute more than 6,500 school supply bags filled with over $60 worth of supplies to students throughout our community during the School Supply Slam weekend.
