Please stay safe this Independence Day weekend!

🎆 Celebrate Safely This Independence Day! 🇺🇸

As we gather with family and friends to celebrate the Fourth of July, let's all do our part to keep our community safe.

Fireworks can quickly ignite dry grass, brush, and other vegetation, causing fast-moving fires that threaten homes, property, wildlife, and lives. Even fireworks that seem harmless, such as sparklers, can reach temperatures of over 1,000°F and easily start a fire.

If you see smoke or a fire, report it immediately by calling 911. A quick response can make all the difference.

Let's work together to ensure everyone has a fun, safe, and memorable Independence Day. By taking a few extra precautions, we can help prevent unnecessary fires and keep our community safe.

This demonstration is an excellent example of how fast things can go wrong with fireworks being used in improper places or without due regard to safety. While District 3 - Otero County Fire & EMS is EXTREMELY excited to be celebrating our Independence Day, we urge everyone to be safe and responsible. We do not want any celebrations to turn into incidents or tragedies. Remember, fuel moisture and relative humidity are low while temperatures are high. Fire can spread quickly and unexpected fire behavior is possible. Stay safe out there, neighbors!

It is almost Cherry Festival weekend! District 3 would like to encourage all the festival goers and travelers to have a safe, responsible, and fun weekend. Especially staying safe on the way to and from the festival. Patience with traffic and in your vehicle can pay off in the long run. Stay safe and stay hydrated!
