At Jake Drost our classrooms were filled with a little more love at, a lot more smiles, and some very proud grandparents as we celebrated Grandparents Day! From sweet hugs to special moments together, we loved getting to welcome some of our children’s favorite people into their school world.
Thank you to all of the grandparents, and other family members who love, encourage, teach, and cheer on our littlest learners. The role you play in their lives is bigger than you know!

Join us in congratulating Mr. Mack Dellafosse, who was recently selected as the 2026 Region VI Head Start Association Volunteer of the Year! Mr. Dellafosse has been a longtime supporter of the Calcasieu Parish School Board Early Childhood Department and a strong advocate for children and families in our community. This recognition reflects the time, care, and dedication he has given through his volunteer service.

J. I. Watson Head Start students discussed the importance of keeping safe on the bus. Classrooms were set up to resemble a bus. The young scholars then went to an actual bus to practice what was learned in class. We are field trip ready!

John F. Kennedy Early Learning Center celebrated Grandparents Day on Friday with a special day of learning and togetherness. Grandparents joined their grandchildren in planting marigolds and participating in a variety of classroom activities. Grandparents are treasured roots in the lives of our students, providing love, guidance, and support. As the marigolds grow and develop strong roots, grandparents and grandchildren can enjoy watching them flourish together, just as our students continue to learn and grow each day.

John F. Kennedy Learning Center welcomed families to a student-led scavenger hunt, offering a glimpse into a day in the life of our students at JFK. Students had a wonderful time guiding their families through various classroom activities and explaining what takes place during a typical school day, including center time, math, and phonemic awareness lessons. They proudly showcased their work and their classrooms, demonstrating all they have learned. It was a memorable event, and a great time was had by all!

Learning, collaboration, and a little pure imagination! Our Golden Ticket to Learning Mini Conference brought educators together to strengthen instructional practices, explore new ideas, and discover meaningful ways to support young learners. We are grateful for everyone who shared their knowledge, creativity, and commitment to making a difference! Now it is time to take their learning out into their classrooms! We wish everyone a safe and happy start to their school year!

Day two focused on building strong foundations through curriculum and child development. Educators strengthened their understanding of developmentally appropriate practices and explored intentional ways to support each child’s learning, growth, and individual needs. Meaningful learning begins with knowing how young children grow! 💜
