On Thursday, July 23, 2026, officers with the Lake Charles Police Department (LCPD) Traffic Division arrested 32-year-old Shane Alan Griffiths of Lake Charles in connection with the July 17, 2026, fatal hit-and-run crash on Red Davis McCollister Road that resulted in the death of a 16-year-old male.

During the investigation, officers determined that Griffiths was a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Evidence obtained by investigators revealed that Griffiths assisted Garrin N. Solari following the crash.

Griffiths was arrested without incident at his residence and transported to the Calcasieu Correctional Center, where he was booked on one count of Accessory After the Fact (Felony).
Judge Tony Fazzio set Griffiths' bond at $100,000.

Additional Charge Added in Fatal Hit and Run Investigation

As the investigation into the fatal hit-and-run crash involving an electric scooter continued, detectives with the Lake Charles Police Department (LCPD) obtained additional evidence that resulted in an additional charge against 33-year-old Garrin N. Solari of Lake Charles.

On Wednesday, July 22, 2026, Solari was served with an arrest warrant at the Calcasieu Correctional Center charging him with one count of Vehicular Homicide. Judge Tony Fazzio set an additional bond of $250,000 for the new charge.

On Friday, July 17, 2026, at approximately 12:23 a.m., LCPD officers responded to the area of Red Davis McCollister Road, west of South Park Road, in reference to a crash involving an electric scooter. The crash resulted in the death of a 16-year-old male.

On Monday, July 20, 2026, members of the LCPD Traffic Division, Patrol Division, and Detective Division arrested Solari in connection with the fatal hit-and-run crash.

During the investigation, officers located Solari's vehicle at his residence and seized it as evidence. Investigators also determined that Solari allegedly attempted to conceal and destroy evidence related to the crash.

Solari is currently booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center on the following charges:
Vehicular Homicide (1 count)
Felony Hit and Run
Obstruction of Justice

Judge Tony Fazzio initially set Solari's bond at $465,000. With the additional Vehicular Homicide charge, his total bond is now $715,000.

The Lake Charles Police Department is aware of a video circulating on social media depicting an incident on Bord du Lac Drive. The post alleges the incident occurred during the overnight hours of Friday, July 17, into Saturday, July 18.

At this time, investigators believe the video depicts an older incident.

Officers assigned to proactive patrols at the Lakefront have confirmed there were no reported incidents on the boardwalk, throughout the Lakefront area, or on the Event Center grounds during those overnight hours. Additionally, a preliminary review of security camera footage has found no evidence of an incident occurring in those areas during the overnight hours.

The Lake Charles Police Department will continue to maintain a proactive presence at the Lakefront and encourages residents and visitors to report any suspicious or criminal activity to law enforcement. Non-emmergency tips can be submitted anonymously through the Lake Charles PD app. As always, in an emergency, dial 911.
