Lake Stevens Lion Club member Tonya Siefert put together a team of ten lions and friends who installed a bench and memorial sign on Pinnacle Lake Trail on July 12th. The 20th anniversary of the Pinnacle Lake Trail murders was July 11, 2026. On that date in 2006, Mary Cooper (56) and her daughter, Susanna Stodden (27), were found fatally shot on the trail, which is located off the Mountain Loop Highway near Granite Falls. The Snohomish County Sheriff's office major crimes unit continues to pursue leads and review tips two decades later. The group included David Stodden, the father and husband of Susanna and Mary, respectively. Tonight at the club monthly dinner meeting Lion Tonya and Lion Doug Lehning gave a presentation to the club on how this memorial came to be. David gave some updates on the continuing investigation and his thanks to the club.

OPERATION BACKPACK
What a wonderful day Lake Stevens Lions Club had volunteering Saturday August 8th handing out free reading books from Lions Giving Library of the Pacific Northwest and writing tablets donated to the club from Hub N Spoke Non-profit. The Operation Backpack back to school fair was organized by Lake Stevens School District and Lake Stevens Community Resource Center - Volunteers of America Western Washington. Over 400 students attended the three hour event receiving information and back to school items handed out by many community resource vendors at their booths.

Stop by the Lake Stevens Lions Club booth and pick out one free recycled children's book supplied by the Lions Giving Library. The Lions will have club information and also have a corn hole game to try out your skills.

Join us on Saturday, August 8, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Cavelero Mid High School (8220 24th St SE, Lake Stevens) for a fun, free community event that helps students get ready for the new school year.

Here's what you can expect:
- Free backpacks and school supplies*
- Connect with more than 24 community organizations serving Lake Stevens
- Complimentary lunch provided by the Lake Stevens Community Food Bank
- Family friendly activities and valuable community resources

Members from the Lake Stevens Lions Club helped cook hot meals for the Lake Stevens Community Supper Program. Club members also helped assemble the meals that were distributed on Tuesday June 11th from 4-6 pm at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Lake Stevens WA. The free community super is served every Thursday from 4-6 (rain or shine).

Congratulations to Brian Young as the 2026 Lion of the Year for the Lake Stevens Lions Club! Brian was presented with the award on Tuesday, June 2nd, at the well-attended 66th annual award ceremony. The Lion of the Year is given to a club member who demonstrates the highest character, ideals, purpose, and service to our community. Brian Young is all this!

On Tuesday night, May 19th, the Lake Stevens Lions Club honored five outstanding local high school seniors with scholarships, investing in their bright futures. The event was held at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Lake Stevens attended by Lion Club Members and family and guests of the scholarship winners.

Congratulations to the accomplished senior scholarship winners of the Community Service Award: Sadie Ross and Leilani Okiyama from MGHS, Smriti Muralidhar and Sai Kodaganti LSHS.

Avery Weil from MGHS was awarded the prestigious Elliott Cheap Memorial Scholarship.

On Saturday, May 16, the Lake Stevens Kokanee Derby, presented by the Lake Stevens Lions Club and the Snohomish Sportsman's Club, took place. Weigh-in was from 10 am to 2 pm, and the award ceremony occurred at 2:30 pm. Expert guide Brianna Bruce handed out the awards. Every kid who caught a fish and each kid who didn't catch a fish received a prize gift. The weather was calm, windy, wet, and cold, sometimes all at once! These brave contestants braved the conditions to participate in this year's derby. Thanks to the cooperation of the City of Lake Stevens and the Department of Fish and Wildlife for helping make this happen. The location was next to the Lake Stevens War Memorial; thanks to all servicemen and women who have served so we can have events like this. Thank all of you. Mark your calendars for May 15, 2027, for the next derby.
