Today, on National Gun Violence Awareness Day, we honor the children, families, and communities impacted by gun violence and recommit to creating safer environments for every child in Michigan.
Gun violence is one of the leading causes of death for children in the United States. Prevention starts with all of us: safe storage, open conversations, community support, and ensuring kids always have safe adults they can turn to.
In Michigan, families now have access to a new statewide Gun Lock Distribution Map from Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. The map shows more than 150 locations where residents can pick up free cable-style gun locks, including MDHHS county offices, local health departments, MSP posts, and other community partners.
