>>> Resolution of Commendation for Eagle Scout Weston Brown: Weston Brown was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout at a Court of Honor held at the close of 2019. For his final project, he built and installed five picnic tables at Gateway Community Church, where the tables are used for Food Truck Thursday events and other social gatherings.

>>> Resolution to Honor the 50th Anniversary of the Virginia Scenic Rivers Program: The Virginia Scenic Rivers program is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2020, and the state and local supporters are planning activities which will bring attention to these valuable watersheds throughout the year. Loudoun has two waterways designated as scenic under the program: Goose Creek and Catoctin Creek.

9 PM Update: Utility crews continue to work in the area of Route 7. Eastbound lanes remain closed between Sterling Boulevard and Cascades Parkway. Residents in the immediate area in need of shuttle service from the area of Bartholomew Fair Drive and Rt. 7 should report to 46440 Benedict Drive.

For further updates, Loudoun County residents can sign up for traffic alerts at loudoun.gov/alert. A real-time map of traffic incidents in the county is online at sheriff.loudoun.gov/traffic

FINAL UPDATE (7:35AM February 16): All lanes of Potomac View Road are now open at Route 7 (Harry Byrd Hwy.).

5 AM UPDATE: Potomac View Road will remain closed between Route 7 and Benedict Drive. Route 7 EB has two lanes open at this time

* Bartholomew Drive is closed at Route 7.

* Potomac View Drive southbound is closed at Palisades Parkway.

* Cascades Parkway to Route 7 eastbound is closed.

* Cascades Parkway southbound to Route 7 eastbound is closed.

Please avoid the area and use an alternate route.

Residents of Cascades Village / Potomac Health and Rehab Center can respond to the Eastern Loudoun Station - located at 46620 E Frederick Drive - for reception center and further escort to their home by members of the LCSO and LCSO Auxiliary Unit.

Those walking to the area of Cascade Village in Cascade Manor will be transported by bus from the area of Benedict Drive and Potomac View Road.

The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors joined community partners and members of the public to break ground February 8, 2020, for the renovation and expansion of the Sterling Community. The project will add 2,000 square feet to the existing 18,700 square-foot facility, includes improving the entrances to the center, enlarging the gymnasium, renovating the outdoor pavilion, adding an outdoor amphitheater, creating new patio and lawn areas and expanding the teen recreation area. The Sterling Community Center project is expected to be completed in 2022. More information, including a link to sign up for updates on the project, can be found at loudoun.gov/sterlingccproject.

A wind advisory remains in effect in #Loudoun County until 3 p.m. today. Residents in parts of the county have reported downed trees and power outages.

When dealing with downed trees and wires, residents are reminded to stay away from downed wires as they may be live with electricity. If you see a downed line, report it immediately.

Before you travel please remember to monitor road conditions at sheriff.loudoun.gov/traffic. LCSO & Loudoun County Government enhanced the Loudoun Traffic Incident Activity Map using ESRI, Google Traffic & the Waze app.

Also, make sure to report power outages:

For Dominion Virginia Power, call 1-866-366-4357. Dominion also provides updates through Facebook and Twitter.

To report NOVEC power outages, call 1-888-335-0500.

The Board of Supervisors issued a Proclamation to Recognize February 2020 as Black History Month.

In addition to proclaiming February as Black History Month, this proclamation recognizes notable events relating to African American history that occurred in Loudoun County in 2019, including the Board’s approval of plans for a new Community Wastewater Treatment System in the historically African American community of Howardsville, the accomplishments of athlete Elise Pridgeon and those of fashion model and student Bellen Woodard. The proclamation also recognizes the many African Americans who were on the ballot for local office in November as well as the election of Sylvia Glass as the first African American to represent the Broad Run District on the Board of Supervisors and the election of Michele Thomas as the first African American elected to the Loudoun Soil and Water Conservation District.
