THIS IS A FLASH FLOOD EMERGENCY FOR AREAS NEAR AND NORTH OF LEESBURG.

THE FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 215 AM EDT FOR CENTRAL LOUDOUN COUNTY.

At 1118 PM EDT, emergency management reported ongoing water rescues in the Leesburg area. Route 15 just north of Leesburg is completely flooded and closed at Limestone Branch, which is now in major flood stage.

This is a PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS SITUATION. SEEK HIGHER GROUND NOW! AVOID ALL UNNECESSARY TRAVEL!

Some locations that may experience flooding include Leesburg, Hamilton and Waterford.

Multiple roadways are impacted by tonight’s heavy rains due to flooding or downed trees:

• Catoctin Circle SE and Harrison Street SE near the bike trail.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for northern Loudoun County until 3:00 a.m. Friday, August 7, 2020. Some locations that will experience flooding include Leesburg, Purcellville, Round Hill, Lovettsville, Hamilton, Hillsboro, Paeonian Springs, Waterford, Neersville, Lucketts, Lincoln, Hughesville and Taylorstown. Be aware of conditions in your area.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for parts of #Loudoun County until 9:45 p.m. Areas include Leesburg, Lansdowne, Purcellville, Lovettsville, Hamilton, Paeonian Springs, Gleedsville, Waterford, and Lucketts.

Storms may produce damaging winds, large hail, deadly lightning, and very heavy rain. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of your home or business. Heavy rains flood roads quickly so do not drive into areas where water covers the road.

If you have to go out, be cautious this evening. High water has been reported throughout the area. #turnarounddontdrown

Isaias dropped widespread 3-6" of rain east of I-95, with some reports as high as 7-9" in southern MD. 1-3" (less in the mountains) was reported west of I-95. Just a reminder, our region remains under a flood watch through this evening (8/4/20). Please monitor the forecast with U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) and use extra caution if you must go out today.

Tropical Storm Isaias is moving northeast across northeastern North Carolina and will cross our region through early afternoon. Heavy rains will increase in intensity with significant flooding potential, especially near and east of I-95. Winds will also increase in these areas, with wind damage possible. Tornadoes will also remain possible, mainly near and just west of Chesapeake Bay. Conditions should improve significantly later this afternoon.
