The Lewisville Office of Emergency Management is a department within the City of Lewisville that reports to the Assistant City Manager of Community Services. Our department is responsible for ensuring that the community is ready for both natural and man-made disasters that may occur in our city. We accomplish this through planning, training and developing our community and employees for disasters. Our office is also responsible for maintaining the city's warning and notification systems.

Preparedness is for the whole household, paws included!

For National Preparedness Month, take a few minutes to check your emergency kit. Along with basics like water, flashlights, first aid supplies, and nonperishable food, remember that every household’s kit may look a little different.

Think about the things you and your household rely on every day:
- Medications and medical supplies
- Pet food, water, leashes, and medications
- Flashlights, batteries, and portable chargers
- First aid and hygiene supplies
- Food and water
- Copies of important documents
- Items for individual access or functional needs

And don’t forget your pets! Having their supplies ready ahead of time means one less thing to worry about when you need to act quickly.

Already have a kit? Give it a check! Replace expired items, update medications, and make sure it still meets your household’s needs.
A little preparation today can make things much easier when the unexpected happens.

What’s your plan if an emergency happens and your family isn’t together?

During a disaster, power, water, phone service, transportation, and other services may be disrupted. First responders may also be handling multiple emergencies at once. Having a plan before something happens can help everyone in your household know what to do, where to go, and how to reconnect.

For National Preparedness Month, take a few minutes to create or update your household emergency plan.

Make sure your plan includes:
• Everyone in your household and any functional or access needs
• Important places, including work, school, and daycare
• A plan for your pets
• Meeting places in case you become separated
• Important emergency and utility phone numbers
• An out-of-town contact everyone knows how to reach
• Any medications, medical needs, or other important information

Don’t rely on memory when an emergency happens. Write it down, share it with everyone in your household, and keep a copy somewhere easy to access.

Could you or someone you know need extra assistance during an emergency?

The State of Texas Emergency Assistance Registry (STEAR) is a free, voluntary program that helps Emergency Management and local responders better understand the needs of residents who may require additional assistance during an emergency or disaster.

STEAR may be helpful for residents who:

- Have a disability or limited mobility
- Are medically fragile or need additional medical assistance
- Have communication barriers
- Require personal care assistance
- May need transportation assistance during an emergency

Registration is free.

- Register online: https://stear.tdem.texas.gov/
- Register by phone: Call 2-1-1 and select Option 4.

Registration does not guarantee a specific service during an emergency. Residents should continue to make emergency plans based on their individual needs.

When an emergency or important event affects your area, having timely information can make a difference.

Citizen Alert is the City of Lewisville’s emergency notification system, providing residents and visitors with important information by text message, phone call, or email.

Alerts may include severe weather and emergencies, public safety incidents, evacuation and shelter information, road closures, utility disruptions, and other updates affecting your neighborhood.

During an emergency, Citizen Alert may also provide important instructions, including where to shelter, when to evacuate, or what areas to avoid.

September is National Preparedness Month!

Emergencies and disasters don’t always come with much warning. Taking a few steps now can make a big difference in how you, your family, and your community respond when the unexpected happens.

Throughout September, Lewisville Emergency Management will be sharing practical tips, resources, and local preparedness events to help you get ready before disaster strikes. We’ll focus on simple steps you can take at home, like building an emergency kit, knowing how to receive emergency alerts, creating a family emergency plan, and other ways to help you and your loved ones be ready.

Preparedness isn’t about being ready for everything. It’s about knowing what to do, having a plan, and taking steps now so you’re ready to act when it matters most.

When individuals, families, and neighborhoods prepare together, we help build a stronger, safer, and more resilient Lewisville.

This year, FEMA’s National Preparedness Month theme is “Americans Stand Ready,” encouraging communities across the country to take an active role in preparing for emergencies.

TRAFFIC ALERT: TXDOT LANE CLOSURES

Texas Department of Transportation has scheduled the following daytime lane closures for Wednesday, Sept. 9, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

The I-35E Southbound Frontage Road at Business 121 will have a left lane closed to set low profile traffic barriers.

The I-35E Northbound Frontage Road between Lakepointe Dr and Bennett Ln will have a right lane closed to pour Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement (CRCP).

Please plan ahead, allow extra travel time and avoid the area if possible.

Atmos Energy crews and contractors will be in several areas of Lewisville performing safety surveys of their natural gas distribution system using mobile leak detection units.

* The blue areas will take place on Sunday night, Sept. 6 - early morning hours of Tuesday, Sept. 8

* The orange areas will be assessed on Tuesday night, Sept. 8 -early morning hours of Thursday, Sept. 10

Mobile leak detection units are white SUV’s with flashing lights and are labeled with an Atmos Energy logo or “Utility Contractor.” The unit will be driving slowly in the street and alley at night, which ensures an accurate survey of the gas system.

As part of this routine maintenance, if a natural gas leak is discovered, crews will investigate and grade the leak. If a Grade 1 (hazardous leak) is found, immediate action will be taken to eliminate the hazard. Grade 2 and 3 leaks are monitored and scheduled for repair based on state and federal guidelines.

It’s siren test day!

The City of Lewisville will conduct its monthly outdoor warning siren test today, Wednesday, September 2, at 1 p.m., weather permitting.

If you hear the sirens at 1 p.m., no action is needed—this is only a test.
