The LPD family would like to Congratulate K9 Dre on his retirement. Today was K9 Dre’s last official day of duty. He began his career with the LPD in March 2020 alongside his partner Sergeant Tanner Engle. During his 6 years of service he has been involved in the apprehension of numerous dangerous offenders and hundreds of arrests involving homicide, robbery, trafficking in drugs, weapons offenses, and numerous other crimes. Each time defending his partner, his fellow LPD employees and the citizens of Lima. K9 Dre also conducted countless demonstrations for the community and the youth of the greater Lima/Allen County. K9 Dre, we wish you well in your retirement. We hope you get plenty of treats, many walks, and play time with your kids. You deserve it.

Our department had the privilege of attending the 34th Annual FOP Police Memorial at the FOP Lima Lodge #21. This significant event honors officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice and recognizes the hard work of law enforcement officers in our community.

The memorial also marks the start of National Police Week which is May 10-16th. The Lima Exchange Club presented the Jack Somerville Law Officer of the Year Award to Lima Police Officer Bryce Metz. Officer Metz's award was given in recognition of his bravery and professionalism displayed on October 31, 2025, when he was shot twice during a traffic stop but continued to engage and provide critical updates. His actions reflect the core values of the Lima Police Department. Congratulations Officer Metz.
