We've officially joined the Silent Book Club 🎉🤫 and you can help us celebrate this summer with a different type of reading challenge. The Metro Detroit Silent Book Club Summer Passport Program has kicked off and you can visit participating chapters from June through August 2026 to earn entries toward a Grand Book Basket Prize!

Grab a passport at our next Silent Book Club event on June 8, visit participating chapters across Metro Detroit getting your passport stamped when you attend, and earn raffle entries as you go! The more chapters you visit, the more entries you earn.

Something strange is happening at the library this summer! Where did those dinosaurs come from? Join us for an unforgettable summer filled with books, adventures, prizes, and programs!

The Livonia Public Library’s annual Summer Reading Program, Unearth a Story, runs from June 1 through July 31, 2026. With four different age groups, summer reading is for everyone! Our summer reading program has all kinds of activities, from hands-on programs to performers, storytime to scavenger hunts!

Edit: GOOD NEWS UPDATE (May 15,12:30 p.m.)

The Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) has completed repairs to the water main in Westland. Thanks to the coordinated efforts of GLWA, the City of Livonia, and the City of Westland, the repair was completed without causing decreased pressure to the Livonia water system. There remains NO BOIL WATER ALERT in effect, and Livonia’s water continues to be safe for consumption.

Original: CITY-WIDE ALERT: Emergency Water Main Repairs

The Great Lakes Water Authority will conduct emergency water main repairs tonight, Thursday, May 14, beginning at 9 p.m.

Residents and businesses throughout the City may experience temporary water discoloration, reduced water pressure, and/or interruptions in water service during the repair work. Water remains safe for consumption.

Business owners are advised that reduced water pressure may trigger fire suppression or fire alarm systems. Please take any necessary precautions.

Please monitor Livonia Community and Livonia.gov for updates as they become available.

Plan ahead! All branches of the Livonia Public Library will be closed Saturday, May 23 through Monday, May 25.

Please note, the drive up book drop at the Bennett Civic Center Library will be CLOSED and locked during this time. You will still be able to return items to the exterior book drops at both locations that drop directly into the building.

Prefer to wait until the drive up return is open? No problem! We're a fine free library so feel free to enjoy your items through the holiday closure and we'll see you when we reopen on Tuesday, May 26.

Weather permitting, join us outside tomorrow, Saturday, May 9, for a sensory-based play pop-up program that will stimulate the brain and help develop fine and gross motor skills! Participants will experience different stations with their caregivers. Please wear appropriate clothing that can get wet and a little messy!

We had a great time this week at the Caricature Drawing Workshop with artist Andrew Sigman! Participants were given a quick lesson on visualizing a person's likeness and quickly drawing faces, and then spent time drawing each other get some practice in. Everyone left with a few drawings of themself and a smile!
