Ever wonder what happens to your garbage after it is brought to our transfer station?

Step 1: Your garbage - no matter where you live in Cache County - is loaded onto a transfer truck (shown in picture). Each transfer truck holds the equivalent of garbage on 3 regular garbage trucks.

Step 2: It is driven to North Valley Landfill.

Step 3: We bury the garbage under 6" of cover material at the end of each working day to help keep the garbage in place, keep odors down, and to keep flies and rodents from being attracted to the area.

If you found this interesting, consider joining us on our next summer public landfill tour. The sign up will drop into our socials on June 16th!

As part of the First Dam Tank & Waterline Project, crews will be installing new waterline infrastructure at the intersection of 600 East and Canyon Road. To safely complete this work, the intersection will be fully closed beginning the week of June 15. During this time, all vehicle traffic, as well as pedestrian and bicycle access, will be restricted through the intersection. The closure is expected to remain in place until early July. Access to homes located along 600 East and Canyon Road within the closure area will be maintained throughout the construction period.

Contact the project team with questions at [email protected] or (435) 258-7302.

WAYBACK WEDNESDAY: Utah and Northern Locomotive 11 at the Logan Depot in 1885.

Originally founded as the Utah Northern Railroad in Logan in 1871, the line was built as a narrow-gauge spur off the Union Pacific portion of the transcontinental railroad to serve Cache Valley into Idaho. Union Pacific bought the railroad under the subsidiary Utah and Northern Railroad in 1878. By 1881, the line ran from Ogden to Butte, Montana. The line was vital to the growth and economic development of Logan, providing access to markets for area farmers.
