Union Rescue Mission (URM) is one of the largest missions of its kind in America - bringing help and hope to men, women, and children experiencing homelessness in Downtown Los Angeles.
Homeless women are some of our most vulnerable neighbors. “It’s no way to live… you worry about where to use the restroom, especially at night,” Esperanza shares. “You’re always in fear.” 💔 Every week, 5 women devastated by homelessness will die on the streets of LA. Just Help 1: Meet Shane, as he shares his battle with addiction on Skid Row
For 6 months Shane has endured “Hell on Earth” on Skid Row. After attempting to escape the streets' undesired conditions, Shane found refuge. That was short-lived once Shane began taking drugs inside of the shelter. Shane is just 1 of the 27% of unhoused people struggling with substance abuse disorder in Los Angeles. The path to sobriety is not an easy one but helping just 1 person like Shane overcome their addiction can give him a fresh start and a way out of homelessness permanently.
We are thankful for the support of our friends at 49 Financial! This wonderful team prepared and served lunch to the guests at our downtown Mission and toured the facility to learn more about our services. We are truly grateful for your time and generosity!🥰
We'd like to thank the amazing members of Agape Church for hosting a special day of fun activities for our Sequoia Senior Ladies! Our guests painted rocks with faith-based messages and ended the night with freshly popped popcorn and an inspirational movie. The team served lunch at our downtown mission and at Hope Gardens in Sylmar and worked hard to remove leaves around the property to ensure Hope Gardens stays safe during fire season. We are very grateful for your generosity and positive spirit! ❤🥰

Bow wow to the rescue!
July was a fun-filled month loaded with activities for the kids and families including a visit to our Downtown LA facility here at URM from a beautiful Certified Therapy Dog* named, “Sherlock.”
“Sherlock” graced his presence amongst the many children, families, and staff! The emotional support this sweet dog provided was evident in the joyful, gleeful smiles and laughter heard throughout the Mission wherever his presence was felt. For some, it was the first time they ever had the opportunity to pet, hug, or even come close enough to say “hello” to a four-legged friend.
“Sherlock” was definitely on duty providing some much-needed relief which was welcomed by all.
When “Sherlock” is not here, he is busy helping others at Homeboy Industries during their wellness day as well as Fallbrook Glen of West Hills Nursing Home and Canyon Oaks Nursing Home to name a few.
More joyful times to come with “Sherlock” in the mix at URM.

FAITH Church came to Union Rescue Mission this weekend to serve our precious guests. They were PHENOMENAL. They helped prepare and serve lunch, created a nail painting day spa, popped popcorn, and swirled cotton candy for our kids and residents.
