Today's disappointing homelessness count has generated headlines, analysis, and debates about policy, funding, and who's to blame.

Let's not forget behind every number is a mother scraping together money for a hotel, a senior choosing between rent and medication, a young person trying to stay in school while living in their car.

As conversations unfold, let's not lose sight of the human impact. Homelessness is not a statistic. It's a daily reality experienced by our neighbors, and they deserve to be seen, heard, and valued.

The most important story is that thousands of human beings continue to struggle without the safety, stability, and dignity of a home.

Let's ground this story in humanity and solutions and remember that behind every number is a human being navigating trauma, uncertainty, and the absence of a place to call home.

Congratulations to the Downtown Women’s Center’s 2026 LEADS Cohort! ✨

What began as a group of individuals new to advocacy, storytelling, and systems change has grown into a community of powerful advocates.

Through our Lived Experience Advocates Driving Systems-Change (LEADS) Program, women and survivors with lived experience were prepared to engage in trauma-informed storytelling, advocacy, and public education efforts to advance systems-change.

Join us in the comments to celebrate our grads! 🎉
