SMP visits seniors wherever they gather, at senior centers, housing complexes, churches, and health fairs and talk about what they can do to prevent, detect and report Medicare fraud. SMP trains Medicare beneficiaries how to protect personal information, identify errors on healthcare statements, recognize scams (like illegal marketing, providing unnecessary services, and charging for services that were not provided) and how to report medical fraud and abuse. September’s Fraud Fighter of the Month is KATIE! Katie is our statewide Coordinator of Volunteers and is one of our Northern Kentucky site coordinators. She is an absolute rockstar at volunteer recruiting, training, and management! In addition to managing her own group of volunteers in NKY, she also helps the rest of our staff around the state train and support their volunteer teams to be the best fraud fighters they can be. We’re so grateful for her knowledge, positive attitude, and dedication to the SMP program!

If you're on Medicare, be on the lookout for your Annual Notice of Change (ANOC). Your ANOC will arrive by September 30 and will include important information about the 2027 plan year. It is important to review the upcoming changes so you can make informed decisions during open enrollment, which begins on October 15.

Whew, it was a scorcher out there! 🥵 Even with the sizzling hot weather, we had an absolutely incredible time connecting with everyone at the 2026 Boone County Senior Picnic!

The heat couldn't stop our community from coming together. It was wonderful to see so many fantastic organizations and vendors packed with great resources to support our local seniors. A huge shoutout to our amazing SMP team! Staff member Katie, along with our wonderful volunteers Pauline and Laura, braved the rising temperatures to hand out vital SMP resources. They worked hard to ensure our seniors have the tools and knowledge they need to protect themselves from Medicare fraud, errors, and abuse. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth to chat, grab some information, and beat the heat with us. We love serving this community!
