🌿 Thank You for Joining Us at Native Plant Day! 🌿

The NJSEA and Bergen County Audubon Society welcomed visitors to Richard W. DeKorte Park for a successful Native Plant Day celebration. Attendees enjoyed educational presentations, guided walks, and opportunities to explore the park’s native plant and pollinator gardens. Throughout the day, participants discovered how native plants strengthen biodiversity across the Meadowlands.

Thank you to everyone who attended, as well as our presenters, volunteers, and partners who helped make the event such a success!

Osprey Live Cam Update 8 🦅 | June 1

While no eggs or chicks have been spotted yet, the osprey continue preparing their nest in the Meadowlands. Recent windy conditions have shown just how sturdy the nest has become, while feeding activity continues with fish being brought back from the surrounding marshes. MRRI scientists will continue monitoring the nest closely for signs of egg-laying.

Stay tuned for the next Osprey Live Cam update!

Tree Swallow Nesting Box Cam Update 7 🐦🌿

Swallow babies are finally here!

Over the weekend, tree swallow chicks emerged from their eggs. Their bright pink skin and yellow beaks are clearly visible, with those yellow beaks helping guide parents to accurately feed directly into their mouths. MRRI scientists are closely monitoring the chicks' growth and development to learn more about tree swallow nesting activity in the Meadowlands!

Tree Swallow Nesting Box Cam Update 6🐦🌿

The 5 tree swallow eggs continue to be incubated inside our live cam nesting box. MRRI scientists expect the eggs to begin hatching sometime this week. Once hatched, tree swallow chicks emerge blind and without feathers, relying completely on their parents for warmth, food, and protection during the early stages of development.

Osprey Live Cam Update 6 🦅

Nest building has slowed down as the nest is now suitable for eggs. Scientists have also observed the osprey spending more time guarding and staying close to the nest, a strong sign that egg laying may begin soon. Once the first egg is laid, the female will spend most of her time incubating the eggs for roughly 1 month.

Stay tuned for the next Osprey Live Cam update!
