More ATTENDANCE AWARENESS MONTH activities! 🌟

Today, the District joined other community partners for the Macon-Bibb County Mayor's Literacy Alliance Family Literacy Week Luncheon. In addition to remarks from Alliance leaders about the importance of literacy, attendees heard words of inspiration from Miss Georgia Sophia Wooten and Miss Georgia's Teen Melony Tidmore. Special thanks to the Central Fine Arts and International Baccalaureate High School Ensemble for providing music to set the tone for the day.
Additionally, the District's Family Engagement Program received a Distinguished Collaboration Award, and the District was recognized as a founding partner of this important initiative. Community partnership will continue to be key for addressing literacy needs!

Happy Attendance Awareness Week! Attendance is important because learning builds day to day. Lessons connect from one day to the next and missisng days will cause the student to miss important concepts!

Registration is open for the 2026 Teen Driving Road-eo, a free interactive, hands-on learning experience for teens with a driver’s license or permit. This will be on Saturday, September 26, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Martin-Whitley Educational Complex in Macon. Participants will gain valuable driving safety experience while learning from local public safety professionals and community partners. Space is limited and registration is required. This week is Attendance Awareness Week, and we kicked things off with a celebration at Union Elementary School! Along with honoring the 130 Stars with perfect attendance, students received visits from Superintendent Dr. Dan A. Sims, Georgia Supreme Court Justice Verda Colvin, Westside High School: Home of the Seminoles cheerleaders, Macon Mayhem mascot “Mac” and more!

“This is just a great opportunity, and it’s something that I don’t take lightly,” Northeast High School alum Edreka Coleman said. “I want to encourage other young ladies to step into this field, to go for it and know that they are more capable than they think.”
Coleman is the first female head drum major in Albany State University’s more than 80-year marching band history!
