The Middle Georgia Regional Commission was pleased to join Georgia Power, Robins Air Force Base and community partners for the ribbon cutting of its new 128-megawatt battery energy storage facility near Robins Air Force Base.

The facility stores excess electricity that can be supplied to the power grid when demand is high or additional support is needed. This major investment will strengthen grid reliability, support Georgia’s growing communities, and provide greater energy resilience near Robins Air Force Base.

During the ceremony, Colonel Johari Hemphill emphasized that the facility will enhance the resilience and readiness of Robins while supporting its “no-fail, no-fence-line” mission. The project represents another important step toward strengthening our defenses, encouraging innovation, and ensuring Robins remains prepared to carry out its critical mission - "Robins Proud."

We are proud to have played a role in an investment that strengthens Middle Georgia’s infrastructure and prepares our region for the future through the Central Georgia Joint Development Authority.

The Middle Georgia Regional Commission was pleased to welcome Deputy Commissioner Carter with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs to our September Council meeting.

Deputy Commissioner Carter shared insight into her expanded role and the many ways DCA supports Georgia’s local governments through community development, finance, downtown development, planning, historic preservation, building codes, research, and more. She also emphasized that DCA is more than a source of grant funding; it is a partner committed to understanding each community’s goals and helping identify the programs, partnerships, and resources needed to achieve them.

We appreciate Deputy Commissioner Carter spending the evening with us and engaging in the thoughtful questions and valuable dialogue that followed her presentation!

A special thank-you to Darrin Marcus of Marcus & Marcus for presenting A Woman’s Guide to Self-Defense to our team members this morning!

The session offered many practical takeaways, including: “Don’t be paranoid....be very aware,” and the important question, “What is your escape plan?”

It is easy to become complacent in our daily routines, and these valuable reminders encouraged us to be more aware, prepared, and intentional about our personal safety. A special thank you to Senator Larry Walker for hosting a Legislative Listening Session at Parrish Construction in Perry. The Middle Georgia Regional Commission appreciated the opportunity to partner with Senator Walker and his staff and to moderate this important conversation.

Representatives from Middle Georgia State University, Houston County Government, the 21st Century Partnership, the City of Pineview, and the Houston County Board of Commissioners shared valuable updates with participating legislators about the priorities, opportunities, and challenges affecting their organizations and communities.

A special thank you to the Development Authority of Houston County and Angie Gheesling for including Middle Georgia Regional Commission staff in the August Georgia Economic Developers Association monthly luncheon at the Museum of Aviation’s Century of Flight Hangar.

The program, “The Recipe for Success: How Warner Robins Became America’s #1 Food Manufacturing Market,” explored the factors that have made Houston County a powerhouse in food production. The county is home to major operations for Frito-Lay, Perdue Farms, and Jack Link’s.

Representatives from Jack Link’s and Central Georgia Technical College joined a site selection expert to share valuable perspectives on workforce and talent availability, infrastructure, community readiness, strategic partnerships, and current site selection trends.

The discussion offered practical strategies that communities can use to attract investment, support industry expansion, and create new employment opportunities. We appreciate the opportunity to learn from regional leaders and celebrate Middle Georgia’s continued economic success.
