Public input plays an important role in helping shape the future vision for the community, and we appreciate everyone who took the time to share their thoughts and priorities for Houston County’s continued growth and success.

MGRC staff recently attended the Georgia Municipal Association Regional Listening Session, an important opportunity to connect, learn, and collaborate with local leaders across the region.

Thank you to the City of Centerville for hosting, and special appreciation to District President Councilman Ed Armijo and Larry Hanson, CEO/Executive Director, for leading a successful and engaging meeting.

These biannual gatherings bring city officials together to network, receive legislative updates, and discuss pressing local issues. Most importantly, these meetings create a space for meaningful dialogue, training, and partnership among city leaders, legislators, and GMA staff.

We’re proud to be part of these conversations that help strengthen our communities.

Last week, Laura Mathis, Executive Director, joined Col. Johari Hemphill, Commander, Installation & 78th Air Base Wing along with key mission partners at the Robins Regional Chamber 2026 State of the Base. As part of the program leading into updates from installation leadership, she shared a clear message: Robins Air Force Base is essential to our nation’s defense—but it does not stand alone.

She emphasized that behind every mission are the people who make it happen—military and civilian—as well as the families, businesses, schools, and communities that support them. That collective support is what makes Middle Georgia a true defense region.

As Air Force priorities continue to evolve, she reinforced that readiness, modernization, and taking care of people all depend not only on installations like Robins, but also on the strength of the regions that stand behind them.

Her message was a call for continued regional commitment, investment in the workforce, strengthening infrastructure, and support for Airmen and their families; in doing so, we are not just supporting Robins; we are strengthening our national defense.

We’re proud to be part of a region that shows up every day for those who serve. 🇺🇸
