Summer school art class fun this week! We began the week learning about artist Seurat and his dot paintings. The student challenge- painting with only dots, and being limited to only primary colors letting the brain/eyes do the color mixing to make secondary colors. We ended the week with a fun mask making lesson inspired by masks made around the world.

Summer school art classes are in full swing. Pictured are the 2B, 3A, and 3B classes with their completed sunglasses portraits! The pictures were taken as groups of artists finished so that eventually most of the class ended up in the last picture. The kids really enjoyed this project.

Today we celebrated our TA’s, Ms. Faith’s last day as she is graduating this year. She had wrote and illustrated an original art themed children’s book named “Colors of the Week.” Pictured is 1st grade, IE, Mrs Leather’s class who loved hearing her read the story!

Congratulations to these two young artists. Our fourth and fifth grade students competed in the Macon County Water and Soil District’s annual poster contest. Boston received best of school and second place at the county level in the junior division, and Karys received third place at the county level in the junior division. We are very proud of both of them!

Fifth grade will have a black light art showcase next week before and after their music program on April 16, 2026. The art show will be open from 345 to 5:45 and will reopen after the concert. It is located in the elementary art room and will feature two artworks from every fifth grade student.

Missouri Arts Education Association State Student Art Show 2026

I was only able to submit 8 entries in the 4-6th grade category. I gave my 4-5th grade art club kids the honor of being able to participate. 38 students in my art clubs submitted entries. The following 8 artworks were selected by a vote from their peers.

Reagan B.- Dog Soft Sculpture
Aubriana G.- Watercolor beach Sunset
Elizabeth C.- Cow Skull Sketch
Tristyn S.- Zentangle Knot
Parker L.- Beach watercolor with birds
Ember B.- portrait sketch

Once at the state competition these 8 artworks were judged again against top student artworks from across the state and we had two place at the state level!!!
