Chief Cooks would like the community to be aware of a scam actively targeting residents in Madison. An unknown subject posing as an FDIC investigator or an FBI agent will call your phone number. The caller will claim that you need to withdraw money from your bank account because they are investigating bank tellers for fraud. They will instruct you to hide your phone when you go into the bank so they can listen to your conversation. Once the money is withdrawn and you leave the bank, the caller will direct you to a meeting location. After you hand over the money, they will falsely claim that law enforcement will contact you later and your money is gone. Please beware!

Today, Chief Cooks, Cpl. Korey, and the Madison Police Department had the opportunity to give back to the community by serving a meal to the Senior Citizens Council. On the menu was steak, salad, and a baked potato. As Chief Cooks always says, “Building relationships with the community you serve is vital.” Thank you for the opportunity to serve today!

Chief Cooks and the Madison Police Department would like to keep the community informed about recent proactive activities by our officers over the past week.Several traffic stops have resulted in:

*Narcotics being recovered and taken off the street.

*Two guns recovered and removed from convicted felons.

*Warrant arrests and other traffic-related arrests.

Chief Cooks thanks each officer for their continued commitment to keeping our community safe and for their proactive work.

Chief Cooks, in keeping the community informed, reports that over the last several days there has been a string of burglaries on the East side of the City of Madison. Chief Cooks is pleased to report that two arrests have been made. He thanks the patrol officers and the Investigations Division for their hard work in apprehending those involved.

Chief Cooks reports that over the last two weeks, multiple traffic stops have been conducted by the officers of the Madison Police Department. Some of the stops, once again, resulted in arrests made for dangerous drugs that include methamphetamine and ecstasy. Chief Cooks commends the hard work and dedication that each officer has for the City of Madison, and because of this, drugs continue to be kept off the City streets of Madison.

The Madison Police Department is seeking the public’s help to identify a burglary suspect from last night. The suspect broke into the Fast Track located at 551 W. Base Street, Madison, FL 32340. If you recognize the suspect in the picture, you can call in an anonymous tip to the Madison Police Department at 850-973-5077.

The Madison Police Department will be launching a Police Explorer Program. Our goal is to have it in place by the end of this year. We are looking for 5 male/females that would like to participate. The age group ranges from, 14-21. We will also be getting this information to our local schools for any parent that may be interested in their child participating.

It does cost $85.00 dollars a person. The Police Department does not make any money from this. If you would like to sponsor someone you can do this at the Madison Police Department. This money will then go to the Suwannee River Area Council to cover each persons membership.
