Officer Fred Korey with The Madison Police Department was awarded the First Annual Steven M Agner 1st Responder of the year Award. Officer Korey was presented the award last night at a banquet to honor fallen Deputy Steven M Agner. Who was killed in the line of duty in Madison County July 26, 1999. Congratulations to Officer Korey for a job well done.

On Friday, November 22, 2024, Officers with the Madison Police Department were dispatched to a residence on SW Horry Ave. in reference to a burglary that had occurred to the residence on the same date. The victim informed officers of a broken window she discovered when she returned home from work. Officers then cleared and secured the home, making sure no one was inside. The victim informed officers of what items had been stolen from her home, totaling more than $ 3,000.00 dollars. The victim provided officers with video footage of the person on her property at the time of the burglary. Officers and investigators reviewed the video footage and identified the suspect as Dayshon Cooley. Investigators interviewed Dayshon Cooley at the Madison Police Department for questioning. During the interview Cooley confessed to the burglary and theft of the items missing from the residence. Dayshon Cooley was arrested and charged for burglary of an unoccupied structure and grand theft.

JEREMY HARRIS-HOMICIDE

On May 26th, 2016, the body of Jeremy Harris was located near a set of railroad tracks on ER Scott Road in Madison by a CSX Train Conductor around 3:30am. Investigators learned that Harris, who was 28 years old, had been shot to death. A suspect has not been developed in this case.

Harris was originally from Stuart, FL and graduated high school in Jacksonville before coming to Madison County. He was survived by his parents.

There has been some complaints to the Madison Police Department concerning incoming phone calls to their phones from a person identifying themselves as the Chief of police requesting personal information. Be advised this is a SCAM. The Madison Police department would never call you and request your personal information over the phone. Please do not give out your personal information to these people.
