Chief Cooks, in keeping the community informed, reports that over the last several days there has been a string of burglaries on the East side of the City of Madison. Chief Cooks reports that over the last two weeks, multiple traffic stops have been conducted by the officers of the Madison Police Department. Some of the stops, once again, resulted in arrests made for dangerous drugs that include methamphetamine and ecstasy. Chief Cooks commends the hard work and dedication that each officer has for the City of Madison, and because of this, drugs continue to be kept off the City streets of Madison.

The Madison Police Department is seeking the public’s help to identify a burglary suspect from last night. The suspect broke into the Fast Track located at 551 W. Base Street, Madison, FL 32340. The Madison Police Department will be launching a Police Explorer Program. Our goal is to have it in place by the end of this year. We are looking for 5 male/females that would like to participate. The age group ranges from, 14-21. We will also be getting this information to our local schools for any parent that may be interested in their child participating.

It does cost $85.00 dollars a person. The Police Department does not make any money from this. If you would like to sponsor someone you can do this at the Madison Police Department. This money will then go to the Suwannee River Area Council to cover each persons membership.

During today's City Commission meeting, Chief Cooks, the City Manager, and the City Commissioners recognized two officers from the Madison Police Department for their life-saving measures, which included administering CPR to an unresponsive person with no pulse. Due to their fast action and teamwork, they stabilized the individual until EMS arrived. These are some of the heroic measures our officers take that often go unnoticed, and we are pleased to recognize them. They received a life-saving pin for their uniforms and a certificate from the Chief. Great job, Cpl. Korey and Officer Reed!

One stop resulted in the officers locating a felony amount of illegal drugs, which led to an arrest. Chief Cooks and the Madison Police Department would like to extend our deepest condolences to everyone who knew Harlee Davis, who was a Communications Officer with the Madison County Sheriff's Department. Harlee Davis impacted the Sheriff's Department and the Madison Police Department in a powerful way as a top-tier Communications Officer. We are praying for her family, friends, her Madison County Sheriff's Department family, including the Communications Center, and all who knew her. She will be missed by all.

Chief Cooks, in keeping the community informed, reports that officers conducted several traffic stops over the weekend. Chief Cooks reports that in the early morning hours of July 24, 2026, a fatal shooting occurred within the city. The suspect has been arrested, and there is no further threat to the community, as this was an isolated incident. Chief Cooks thanks the Madison County Sheriff's Department, FHP, and FDLE for their assistance, as well as the officers and detectives of the Madison Police Department for their quick response and efforts that led to the suspect's apprehension. No further information will be released at this time, as the investigation remains ongoing.
