The Beacon is a busy place. Nearly three hundred guests come through the doors every day, and underneath the energy is something worth noticing — the guests at The Beacon know each other. They greet each other across the room. Our staff knows their names.

Something as simple as a bottle of cold water can be everything on a hot day.

During periods of extreme heat, The Beacon stays open, and our guests are here. Keeping them hydrated is one of the most concrete ways you
can help right now. We're currently in need of donations of bottled water, and there are two easy ways to help. Drop off donations at 615 E Washington Ave., Madison (rear entrance off E Main St.) between 8:00 AM and 4:45 PM, or order directly from our Amazon Wish List and have items shipped straight to us.

If you've been looking for a simple, tangible way to help your neighbors this summer, this is it.

Behind many of the essential services at The Beacon, there is a volunteer. They help prepare and serve meals, fold laundry, supervise the showers and the computer lab, and sit with guests in conversation.

Today, we remember.

We remember the men and women who gave their lives in service to this country, and the families who carry the weight of that sacrifice every day after.

At Catholic Charities of Madison, we walk alongside many neighbors whose stories include military service — and the long, complicated road that often follows. Veterans at The Beacon and 5 Door Recovery. Aging parents and spouses across our service area. Families navigating loss and the quiet anniversaries that come with it.

Memorial Day is a day to honor. It is also, for many in our community, a day to grieve. We hold both today, and we are grateful — for those who served, for those who remember, and for the freedom their sacrifice protects.

May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

Working alongside NexTrex, CMC staff and volunteers recycled 1,000 pounds of plastic bags — and turned them into a bench. The bench now sits at the Catholic Multicultural Center, overlooking the pollinator and rain garden. Stop by to see it.

Today is Pentecost, when the Church remembers the moment a small group of frightened followers were filled with courage and sent out into the world.

They went to people who didn't share their language or their story. They built a community across differences. They started something that has carried on for two millennia.

At Catholic Charities of Madison, we try to live that inheritance every day. Across more than a dozen programs and thousands of people each year, we meet our neighbors where they are — different languages, different needs, different stories — guided by the conviction that no one is beyond 4the reach of community.

We wish a blessed Pentecost to our community.

A new baby is a profound joy. It can also be a season when even the most resourceful families could use someone in their corner.

Walking with Moms in Need connects expecting and new mothers with trained parish volunteers who offer something specific: a steady presence, a listening ear, and a knowledgeable guide to the resources their community already has to offer.

These volunteers walk alongside the mothers they come to know — checking in over time, learning their names and stories, and helping each one find her footing in a season that can feel overwhelming, even when it's wanted.

May is Women's Health Month. Maternal wellbeing — physical, emotional, and relational — is at the heart of what Walking with Moms in Need is about. Because a new life deserves to be welcomed by people who are paying attention. So does the woman bringing a life into the world.
