Counseling Chronicles with CJ

Four months ago, one Jefferson County FEC client thought they were doing okay financially. But after meeting with Financial Counselor CJ, they realized their spending habits were creating stress and making it harder to build stability.
Together, they created a plan. After four months of sticking with it, this client has started saving, paid down debt, and feels more confident about their financial future.

“Before financial counseling, I didn’t have savings, made ends meet but barely, and had lots of debt. I didn’t realize how the worry and stress over money was negatively impacting me and my family.
With the guidance I’m receiving from CJ and the Jefferson County FEC, I am more confident and breathing a sigh of relief that I’m on the right path.”

The Jefferson County Financial Empowerment Center offers free, one-on-one financial counseling to help people build savings, reduce debt, improve credit, and make a plan that works for their life.

As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to a close, CAC remains committed to supporting community well-being year-round.

Mental health affects every part of life, from housing stability and financial security to relationships, work, school, and overall health. Through trainings like QPR and Mental Health First Aid for adults and youth, CAC helps community members recognize warning signs, respond with care, and connect people to support when they need it most.

We are also grateful for fellow organizations doing this important work every day, including NAMI and SOAR Madison. Together, we can help build communities where people feel seen, supported, and connected to resources.

CAC has free upcoming Mental Health First Aid trainings for adults and youth in June. Space is limited, so register early:
