Community Action Coalition For South Central Wisconsin, Inc. Community Action Coalition for South Central Wisconsin is a nonprofit working to end poverty and help people live better lives.

CAC fights poverty, not the poor. Our transformative approach includes:

- Distributing food to over 120 food pantries, shelters, and feeding sites in Dane, Jefferson, and Waukesha Counties for FREE.

- Serving residents experiencing chronic homelessness and those at risk of homelessness through programs like Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) and Early Childhood Zones.

- Offering essential resources to low-income community members including clothing, warm winter coats, financial education, and other urgent community needs.

🎉 One year of free financial counseling in Jefferson County!

Since the Jefferson County Financial Empowerment Center launched in September 2025, our counselors have helped community members take meaningful steps toward stronger financial futures.

In just one year:
• 102 clients served
• 304 free financial counseling sessions completed
• $135,468 added to savings
• $417,641 in non-mortgage debt reduced
• 20 delinquent accounts closed
• 17 clients increased their credit scores by 35+ points

These numbers represent more than financial progress. They represent goals reached, stress reduced, and families gaining greater confidence and control over their finances.

Thank you to our clients, counselors, partners, and supporters who helped make this first year possible.

Here’s to year two of helping Jefferson County residents build stronger financial futures, one goal at a time.

Winter Glow is coming this October, and we need your help to make these events possible.

CAC is looking for individuals, businesses, service clubs, and other groups to volunteer at our three upcoming Winter Glow events in Watertown, Waukesha and Fort Atkinson. Volunteering is a hands-on way to support local families while spending a few hours in a fun environment.

Winter Glow helps families prepare for colder weather with essential winter gear like coats, hats, boots and more. Last year, the program served more than 450 households and over 1,900 adults and children.

Our 2026 volunteering time slots are:
• Watertown | Wednesday, Oct. 7, 10:00am-2:00pm and 2:00pm-6:15pm
• Waukesha | Thursday, Oct. 15, 10:00am-2:00pm and 2:00pm-6:15pm
• Fort Atkinson | Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2:00PM - 7:15PM

Can’t volunteer? You can still help by donating children’s winter gear, hosting a donation barrel at your business, contributing in-kind items or services, or becoming an event sponsor.

Whether you come on your own or bring a team from your workplace or organization, we’d love to have you join us.

As CAC celebrates 60 years of serving our communities, we’ve been looking back at some of the moments that helped shape where we are today.

These photos take us back to September of 2019, when our team installed a large walk-in freezer at CAC’s former Stoughton Road location in Madison.

Less than a year later, CAC’s Food Bank was preparing for another major step forward. In late 2020, the freezer was carefully deconstructed and moved along with our food bank operations to our larger warehouse at 1902 E. Wright St.

That move gave CAC more room to receive, store and distribute food throughout our communities, and helped build the infrastructure that continues evolving today.

Years later, the Wright Street facility is now home to the Foodshed Partnership, expanding what’s possible by providing storage, aggregation and processing capacity that connects Wisconsin farmers with local buyers and communities.

A lot has changed since these photos were taken, but the goal remains familiar: build the capacity our community needs, one step at a time.
