Serve Wisconsin was happy to join with roughly 400 volunteers at the 9/11 Day of Service meal packing event hosted by 9/11 Day at Marquette University in Milwaukee this morning, one of 50 meal packing events they are hosting across the country today. These projects and numerous others across our state and nation are being done as part of a national day of service in commemoration of the events 25 years ago on September 11, 2001.

The volunteers packed over 125,000 meals that will be distributed by Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin to assist community members in need. We were happy to be joined in serving by AmeriCorps members and program staff from Wisconsin Association of Free & Charitable Clinics, 414 Fellows, and Wisconsin Math Corps.

Thank you to all of the volunteers for their this morning and thank you to everyone serving today as part of 9/11 Day of Service.

As we commemorate the events that took place on twenty-five years ago on September 11, 2001, we want to encourage people to volunteer and serve in their communities as we also remember But we also remember what happened next when people showed up to help others through a spirit of unity and hoping to make a difference for those impacted that day.

In commemoration of that spirit of service, Congress officially created the September 11 Day of Service and Remembrance as one of two official days of service across our country.

If you are looking for opportunities to serve, visit https://www.911day.org/volunteer/ for opportunities across the country, with other ways to serve available in Wisconsin found on Volunteer Wisconsin at www.volunteerwisconsin.org.

This 9/11, honor the past by doing good in the present. Let’s . 💛🇺🇸

With schools having started up over the last few weeks, we are excited to highlight the new outdoor classroom that volunteers were able to build at Sevastopol School through support from our AmeriCorps Volunteer Generation Fund grant.

The Interact Club at Sevastopol High School has been working in partnership with the Sturgeon Bay Breakfast Rotary Club to provide a meaningful service and leadership experience for high school youth since 2024. At the end of the last school year, the youth discussed and developed a service project idea to create an outdoor classroom space in the woods behind the K-12 school site.

Volunteers were able to begin work on the outdoor classroom this summer, with its ribbon cutting at the end of August and all of the work to finish the project completed by the end of this month.
