What a wonderful evening with Audubon Great Lakes, Aldo Leopold Audubon Society, UW-Stevens Point, UWSP College of Natural Resources professors, Prairie Chicken Project Wisconsin and local birders at Central Waters Brewing Company for Birds & Brews.

We talked all things habitat, restoration, conservation, and of course a lot about the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship funding lapse and what that means for conservation in Wisconsin. I am the proud author Assembly Bill 435 to restore funding for Knowles-Nelson and commit Wisconsin to land stewardship now and into the future.

Unfortunately, due partisan shenanigans, my bill was ignored never received a public hearing. Good ideas, especially ideas that are part of our shared Wisconsin values, should transcend party politics and culture wars, and yet again the majority party in Wisconsin would rather assert their power and pit conservation groups against each other rather than be good stewards to the most bipartisan piece of legislation in the past 4 decades.

Wisconsinites deserves better and I will keep fighting for this critical piece of legislation.

As the holiday weekend approaches, families are facing record-high fuel prices. According to AAA data, diesel has reached an all-time high of $5.85 per gallon, surpassing the previous record set in June 2022. While high demand typically coincides with lower prices this time of year—regular gas has historically remained under $4 per gallon on Labor Day—prices continue to rise due to the ongoing conflict in Iran.

These increases affect more than just individual drivers. Diesel powers the nation's supply chain, transporting essential goods to local grocery stores. As transport costs rise, so do the prices of everyday items, particularly produce, meat, and other perishable goods. Those cost are passed on to you.

The Trump regime and his enablers at the Federal, State, and Local levels have failed to manage these rising costs, prioritizing military spending in with their illegal war in Iran and culture wars domestically, while leaving families and local businesses to absorb the financial burden.

What an amazing finale in a very long and remarkable journey for Central Rivers Farmshed. Their commercial kitchen is now open for businesses. Yep, that's right. That was not a typo. BUSINESSES!

After years of operating in a grassroots fashion, Farmshed has met this milestone with state of the art commercial kitchen is now equipped to serve the next level of local food entrepreneurs. This milestone was made possible by the incredible generosity of the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Third Order of St. Francis, in partnership with CREATE Portage County, and a pair of bold and daring Portage County Supervisors.

With the space and capability to process pallets of vegetables into value-added products, Farmshed has positioned itself as a premier regional hub for the local food movement, local farmers, and local food proprietors in central and north-central Wisconsin.

Door2Dreams held their groundbreaking ceremony last week. It was a wonderful heartfelt gathering kicking off the first phase of construction for this intentional community and development.

"Founded by parents, professionals, and self-advocates, Door2Dreams, Inc. is a Wisconsin nonprofit dedicated to helping adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) live, work, and thrive. The Berard Gathering Lodge will serve as the first building in a future neighborhood designed to support these individuals, representing an important step toward creating greater independence, connection, and opportunity within our community."

I am so grateful for all of the community partners who have had a hand in making this happen. It truly takes a village to foster a community of inclusivity, compassion, and belonging and I could not be happier that this is so close to home. It will truly make our neighborhood so much more well rounded.

Thank you to the Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin, Sisters of St. Joseph of the Third Order of St. Francis, the Berards, and every single person and family who have had a hand in making this project be a success.
