Today, the Badger Battalion is honored to recognize MIDN 1/C Nies.
A Global Health major with minors in Health Policy and Urban Planning from Tiburon, California, MIDN Nies is pursuing a career as a Surface Warfare Officer, with the goal of possibly serving as a Tactical Action Officer aboard her ship. Her favorite UW NROTC memory was being part of the Endurance Team for the Colorado Drill Meet.
One of MIDN Nies’ most memorable UW experiences was serving as a Community Health Outreach Intern at the Nikumbuke Health and Learning Center in Lunga Lunga, Kenya. In this role, she helped educate women and girls on a variety of health topics, as well as English, math, and life skills.
Her favorite summer training memory was visiting the Maritime Officer Candidate School during the Foreign Exchange Cruise in Japan. While there, MIDN Nies had the opportunity to learn how Japanese cadets are trained as naval officers by participating in their daily routine, including reveille, kendo training, naval science classes, English language classes, and cutter practice.
Congratulations, MIDN Nies, and thank you for your dedication to the Badger Battalion. We are excited to see all you accomplish in the Surface Warfare community.
