“IT FEELS GOOD. I’ve seen more success in the last year than I have in the past 10 before.”

Danny shared that at our housing meeting this week. And we love hearing it!

He was quick to credit Chad and the Be Able team for the support he’s received, but the truth is, Danny has put in the work...

He has shown commitment. He has kept showing up. He has carried his load. He has taken the next right step again and again.

That kind of consistency matters.

Today, Danny has earned his role as a peer mentor in our housing program, encouraging other men and setting an example for everyone who walks through the doors.

Our housing program is better because of his leadership. Keep going, Danny. We’re proud of you!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BE ABLE!

Six years ago, in September 2020, when much of the world was closing its doors, Be Able opened ours for the first time. We started with a handful of people and a simple belief: that everyone deserves connection, dignity, and a spark of hope.

Today, Be Able serves roughly 1,100 individuals walking through adversity each year.

This newspaper clipping has hung on our wall as a reminder of where we started and how far we’ve come. In that article, Scott shared the vision for what Be Able could become:

“When someone walks out of here, I want them to feel like something’s possible… and get a spark of hope. You never know what little thing can plant a seed of possibility.”

Six years later, the vision is the same... Giving people a glimpse of what can be. Offering hope. And reminding each person who walks through our doors that they are ABLE.

To our community: THANK YOU! Without your support, generosity, prayers, volunteering, and belief in this mission, Be Able would not have made it past year one.

We’re grateful for six years... and hopeful for what’s ahead!

A FANTASTIC DUO with a heart for our community.

We’re excited to have Dave Lewis and David Garcia serving as emcees for this year’s Be Able Upside-Down Auction.

They joined us today for a planning meeting, and we’re grateful for the time, energy, and care they’re putting into helping us tell our neighbors’ stories well.

This evening is about more than an event. It’s about celebrating lives being changed, honoring the work being done, and inviting our community to be part of what’s next.

Join Dave, David, and the Be Able team on Thursday, September 24 for the Upside-Down Auction!

Tickets are free, but limited: beablecommunity.com/auction

GO LAKEISHA! Last November, we celebrated Lakeisha getting her ID... a small step that might seem simple from the outside.

Today, she’s steadily employed and being recognized by her Taco Bell team as one of their best employees.

Small steps. Big changes. We’re so proud of you, Lakeisha.

“CHAD CAME AFTER ME.” Beejay filmed his story for this year’s Upside-Down Auction, and he shared honestly about the road that brought him to Be Able Housing.

He said he had been living life on the edge, struggling, and not living as the man he wanted to be. Then Chad showed up.

Beejay joked that getting into Be Able Housing felt a little like a sh***un wedding... once the door opened, things moved fast. Within a week, he was accepted into the program. And he’s grateful Chad didn’t take "no" for an answer!

Beejay also made something clear: “In Be Able Housing, it’s not a free ride.”

There is commitment... meetings, testing, sobriety, dues, employment, accountability. But you get out of it what you put into it.

Today, Beejay is not only moving forward in his own recovery, he’s serving as a peer mentor and encouraging other men to keep taking the next right step. We’re proud of you, Beejay!

Join us to hear his story at the Be Able Upside-Down Auction on Thursday, September 24th. Tickets are free, but limited: beablecommunity.com/auction

Thank you, Jordan and University Christian Church for helping us to tell these stories.

HUGE: Today we celebrate Jesse, one of our newest Be Able Housing graduates.

Jesse came to Be Able under different circumstances than many of the men in our housing program. He didn’t need recovery housing as much as he was looking for structure, encouragement, and the right environment to launch into independence.

And Jesse made the most of it.

During his time at Be Able, he landed a great job, encouraged the other men in the house, showed up for meetings, carried his load, and took every expectation seriously.

He wasn’t with us long... because he was ready to move forward. That’s something worth celebrating.

At Be Able, we love helping men take the next step toward stability, responsibility, and a life they can build on. Jesse put in the work, and we have no doubt he’s going places.

Congratulations, Jesse. We’re proud of you!

“YOU AINT HERE BY YOURSELF."

This thought was shared during the first Be Able Works Academy workshop. And honestly, it says a lot.

Last week, Mia officially launched the Academy by helping the group build shared expectations for the room... respect, communication, patience, confidentiality, conflict resolution, showing up, and helping one another take steps forward.

These aren’t just classroom values... They’re workplace values. Life values. Community values.

The group talked about being on time, staying engaged, asking for help, thinking before speaking, and doing your best with what you have, where you are. THIS is what workforce stability looks like.

It’s not just getting the job. It’s learning how to keep showing up and keep moving forward with others. Success isn’t just about the first paycheck. It is about building a life that allows you to keep going and keep growing.
