Company 26 is currently on scene of a commercial vehicle accident for a tractor trailer hauling milk that is overturned. Crews have been on scene for several hours. Lebanon Hazmat 50 is also on scene.

It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of former member and Assistant Chief, Anthony 'Scott' Kupres.

Scott was a dedicated member of the Manheim Fire Department for well over a decade. He also served with Waterville Fire Department in Lycoming County. Scott passed on Sunday, August 23rd, peacefully at the Hershey Medical Center surrounded by family and friends.

Last Friday, the 14th, Manheim Fire Department was dispatched to Penryn Fire Company No. 1 first due for a reported structure fire. Caller was reporting their kitchen to be on fire. Chief 28-1 was first arriving line officer and reported a dwelling with heavy fire showing from the Charlie side and the roof.

Engine 26, Tower 26, and Tanker 26 all made the response with 8 personnel total. The Tower was second arriving apparatus, shortly behind Engine 28. Engine 26 arrived just behind the Tower. Crews from both engine companies made an aggressive attack on the fire. Tower 26 performed various truck company assignments. The Tanker arrived on scene shortly after other apparatus.

Crews were on scene for several hours before returning to station to clean tools, hose, fill cylinders, and get apparatus back in service.

During the structure fire, Rescue 26 was dispatched to a fire alarm at Pleasant View, another Penryn call. The Rescue made the response and assisted with that incident.

Today, at 8 AM, Manheim Fire Department was dispatched to the 500 block of Stiegel Valley Rd for a vehicle fire. Units arrived to find a pickup truck with a well off engine compartment. The fire was quickly contained.

Today, 7/8, Company 26 was dispatched to the Manheim Auto Auction for a reported fire alarm from a pull station. Shortly after dispatch the assignment was upgraded to a structure fire, a few callers reporting an active vehicle fire inside a building. Chief 26, Engine 26, and Tower 26 all made the response.

Chief 26 was the first arriving unit and confirmed a working vehicle fire in the building. Engine 26 arrived shortly after and stretched a handline to extinguish the fire. There was no extension into the building itself. Crews were on scene for just about an hour before clearing.

Yesterday, 7/7, Rescue 26 was dispatched along with Penryn Fire Company No. 1, for a vehicle accident with entrapment. Units arrived to find a vehicle between a house and a tree with the driver significantly entrapped. Crews from 26 and 28 worked on extrication and did a full roof removal for patient removal.

Our brothers and sisters at Lafayette Fire Company are hosting their annual Cadet Camp for kids ages 8-14 where they will learn valuable skills about first responders! Some of our members from Manheim Fire Department will be participating as instructors.

Yesterday, 7/2, Company 26 along with mutual aid companies were dispatched to Hilltop Acres Farmers Market for a reported structure fire. Engine 26 made the response with 3 personnel, Tower 26 with 4, and Tanker 26 with 1.

Chief 26-1 along with Manheim Borough Police arrived to find nothing evident. Engine 26 arrived shortly after, and discovered a hatch that led to the attic space where a smoke condition and high heat was discovered. The crew deployed a handline and investigated the attic space where a burnt through wire was located that was catching multiple sections of insulation on fire.

Over nearly 3 hours, crews worked in the attic space to get the burnt wire out, get all the burnt insulation out, and wet down the remainder to be sure there would be no flare ups. Due to the high temperatures outside reaching 105° with a real feel above 110° multiples other engine companies were requested to the scene for manpower during this extensive operation.

Eventually the incident was finally completed and crews returned available. Company 26 returned to the station and was working on getting all apparatus back in service by filling cylinders, cleaning tools, and filling with water when a call for a brush fire at Weis Markets was dispatched. Chief 26 and Engine 26 made the response within a minute and discovered a small bush that had caught fire in the parking lot.

A busy day for MFD that was not ideal in the ongoing heat wave. Crews worked diligently, even in the heat, to handle emergency incidents with professionalism.

Yesterday, 6/29, Rescue 26 was dispatched out to Mastersonville Fire Co first due for a commercial vehicle fire for a reported combine on fire. Rescue 26 made the response with 5 personnel. 27 units arrived to find a large combine that was well off. With that additional and command requesting an additional tanker, Tanker 26 made the response as well.

The Rescue arrived soon after 27 units and assisted with several things on scene including checking for hot spots, overhaul, and cleanup. The Tanker arrived shortly after and delivered 2 full tanks of water for operations.

After the fire, MFD held Monday night training at the LCPSTC. Members worked on VES and victim removal via ladders.

Yesterday, May 30th, was a busy day for MFD. The day started when Company 26 was dispatched to a reported mass transit vehicle accident involving a transit bus. Rescue 26, Engine 26, and Deputy 26 made the response. Crews arrived to find one sedan vs a bus with significant damage. 26 assisted with patient care, traffic control, and debris cleanup.

While on scene of the accident, crews noticed the dispatch for a trash fire in
Penryn Fire Company, Station 28's, first due. The incident was about a mile up the road from where the accident was. Engine 26 detached from the accident and responded to the trash fire to assist 28. Engine 26 was first arriving unit and found a small trash and brush pile that was not contained with no one supervising it. The Engine crew utilized a can and brush rakes to extinguish it. Once Engine 28 arrived they deployed a hand line to make sure the fire was completely out and had no chance to re-light.

After returning from both incidents, several members of MFD participated in a comradery / training night. Members shared a meal, trained on several topics, and enjoyed the evening together. Some topics covered in the evening were stretching handlines, driver-operator training, aerial usage, and rope systems. To end the evening, members shared ci**rs.

As the evening was winding down, members were notified for a Rescue Company standby to Columbia Borough Fire Company while they operated on a working fire in Wrightsville Borough. Rescue 26 was out the door before official dispatch with a crew of 6. The Rescue stood by at Station 80 for 2 hours before returning available.
