The temperature is on the rise today, Tuesday & Wednesday 🌡️

🚨HOT PAVEMENT = HOT PAWS 🚨

Your pets feel the heat just like you do, except they CAN’T directly tell you when it hurts.

On hot days, pavement temperatures skyrocket, and what feels warm to us can be devastatingly dangerous for them.

🔥 When it’s 90°F outside, asphalt can reach 148°F
🔥 At 95°F, that surface hits 162°F

A general rule of thumbs, if you can't leave your hand on the pavement for 5-10 seconds WITHOUT it burning, it is WAYYYY too hot for their paws.

Here are some tips to avoid the hot pavement:

🐾 Walk early or late in the day when the ground is cooler.

🐾 Always test pavement with your hand—if it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for them.

🐾 Stick to grass or shaded area, when possible.

🐾 Keep pets hydrated and indoors when possible.

🐶🐱 They trust you to keep them safe. Let’s not make summer a season of suffering for our furry family members.

If you suspect your dog has burned its paw pads, please seek veterinary care immediately. This can be very painful for a dog ❤️‍🩹

Symptoms of burnt paw pads include:

❤️‍🔥 redness

❤️‍🩹 blistering

❤️‍🔥 limping

❤️‍🩹 avoidance of walking or standing

❤️‍🔥 whimpering

❤️‍🩹 excessive licking or chewing of paws

If your primary veterinarian is unavailable, do not wait until they reopen or have an appointment slot--there are a number of wonderful 24 hour Emergency Clinics in the area that will take walk-ins.

☀️Have a Safe and Happy Sunday ☀️
