Update on Nogal Road. The road is passable; the Roads Crew has made it accessible for residents to get home, but please be careful. Nogal residents will not have water tonight. The flood damaged the water line, and we’ll need to fix it in the morning. It created a large ditch, which poses a safety hazard for the Roads and Utilities crew because of the limited light. Sorry for the inconvenience, but the Roads and Utilities crew will be out first thing in the morning to repair the road and the water line.

Update on Eagle Creek Road construction. All the coverts have been installed on Eagle Creek Road, and the contractors are beginning to lay down the base course, aiming to pave the roads within the next couple of weeks and complete the project by November 2026. These are much-needed improvements to our recreational area in Eagle Creek. Excited to see it open in the 2027 season.

We are excited to share that we have received a grant for a road striping project to repaint roads on the reservation. This is one of the top safety issues and concerns we’ve heard from the community. We plan to start the striping project in February 2027.

Update on Nogal Road construction. We are finalizing the remaining documents needed to hold our preconstruction meeting with BIA engineers. We plan to begin construction in October 2026 on Route 1 in Nogal Canyon.

The Mescalero Apache Tribe Roads Department is developing a Safe Streets for All (SS4A) Safety Action Plan to help make transportation safer for everyone across the Reservation.
Join us for a Public Meeting on Wednesday, September 2 at 6:00 p.m. at the Inn of the Mountain Gods Ballroom.
Come learn about the Safety Action Plan, share your roadway safety concerns and ideas, and help identify priorities for future safety improvements. Your experiences and feedback are an important part of this planning effort.

The Roads Department held a kickoff meeting for the planning phase called Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) safety action plan for Mescalero. We will host public meetings and invite community members to share their feedback and suggestions on how to improve safety for Mescalero's road systems.

The Mescalero Roads Department is pleased to announce that we have completed the Carrizo Trails Road project. This is our first community where we have installed speed bumps. We are exploring the possibility of installing more speed bumps in other neighborhood communities throughout the reservation. This process will take some time as we secure funding for the installations. Speed bumps are much needed in our neighborhoods to improve safety for our kids. Installing speed bumps throughout the neighborhood communities will be one of our top priorities.
