The Mescalero Roads Department is pleased to announce that we have completed the Carrizo Trails Road project. This is our first community where we have installed speed bumps. We are exploring the possibility of installing more speed bumps in other neighborhood communities throughout the reservation. This process will take some time as we secure funding for the installations. Speed bumps are much needed in our neighborhoods to improve safety for our kids. Installing speed bumps throughout the neighborhood communities will be one of our top priorities.

The Mescalero Roads and Utilities Department will be conducting a second round of traffic data collection from May 11–15, 2026 as part of the Long-Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) Update. This effort will capture seasonal variations and help ensure the most accurate, up-to-date information for future transportation planning.

During this time, you may notice small tubes or devices placed across roadways. These temporary counters help measure traffic volume so we can better understand roadway needs and plan for future improvements.

Thank you for your cooperation as we work to improve safety and transportation for our community.

If you have any questions or concerns, please coordinate directly with the Mescalero Apache Tribe Roads and Utilities Department at (575) 464-0254.
