On Saturday, June 13, 2026, the Mesquite Police Department and Mesquite Fire Department Honor Guard teams participated in the opening ceremony of the Best of the Best Charity Golf Tournament at Conestoga Golf Club.

This annual tournament is a tremendous community event that brings people together for a great cause. Proceeds from the tournament directly benefit Mesquite’s first responders, helping support those who dedicate themselves to serving our community.

We are grateful to the organizers, sponsors, volunteers, and participants who make this event possible year after year. The continued success of this tournament is a reflection of the generosity and community spirit that make Mesquite such a special place to live and work.

Thank you for your support of our first responders and for always stepping up to make a difference. We are proud to serve a community that continually demonstrates such kindness, dedication, and appreciation.

We were honored to be part of this year’s opening ceremony and look forward to many more years of this event.

Motorists are advised to avoid southbound Interstate 15 due to a traffic accident. Traffic is currently backed up from Mile Marker 115 to Mile Marker 106, and significant delays should be expected.

We ask drivers to slow down, remain patient, and watch for emergency personnel working in the area.

After nearly 19 years of dedicated service to the Mesquite Police Department and the citizens of Mesquite, Officer Jeff Smith has officially retired.

Officer Smith joined the Mesquite Police Department on August 27, 2007, and throughout his career served in numerous assignments that helped shape and strengthen our organization. His service included roles in Patrol, SWAT, Detectives, School Resource Officer, Public Information Officer, Officer in Charge, Crisis Negotiations, and Corrections.

Jeff's service made a lasting impact on both the department and the people he served.

Please join us in thanking Officer Jeff Smith for his years of service and dedication to the Mesquite community. We wish him the best in whatever adventures he has in the years ahead.

The Mesquite Police Department was proud to support another successful Grad Night celebration for our graduating seniors.

This annual event provided students with a safe, fun-filled evening at the Mesquite Recreation Center where they enjoyed games, swimming, food, entertainment, a hypnotist show, caricature artists, and time with friends as they celebrated this important milestone together.

This evening was made possible through the incredible support of our community businesses, organizations, and residents, dedicated parents, and hardworking students who helped raise funds. Graduates also had the opportunity to win prizes, gifts, and cash during a large raffle giveaway.

We are grateful to everyone who contributed their time, resources, and support to make this memorable night possible. Your commitment to our youth helps create positive experiences and lasting memories for the next generation.

Congratulations to the Class of 2026 on this outstanding achievement. We wish you success as you begin the next chapter of your journey.

On the evening of May 27th and the morning of May 28th, officers with the Mesquite Police Department had the privilege of escorting participants in the Texas 4000 Cancer Awareness Ride as they traveled through our community.

Texas 4000 is a 4,000 mile bicycle journey from Austin, Texas, to Anchorage, Alaska. The mission of the ride is to raise awareness, inspire hope, share knowledge, and support the ongoing fight against cancer.

We are proud to play a small role in helping these dedicated riders to safely continue their incredible journey and commend them for their commitment to making a difference in the lives of those affected by cancer.

As another school year comes to a close, the Mesquite Police Department would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to our incredible crossing guards.

Thanks to the hard work and commitment of our crossing guards and our police officers, we're proud to share that this school year saw zero reported incidents involving students on foot or bicycles being struck by vehicles in our school zones.

Thank you for being a steady presence and a friendly face and for the part you play in keeping our kids safe. And to our community, thank you for slowing down, staying aware, and doing your part to keep our school zones safe.

The Mesquite Police Department extends its sincere appreciation to our dedicated Police Volunteers! Everyday they assist officers and residents through a wide variety of important duties, including:

VIN Inspections
Handicap Parking Enforcement
Vacation Checks
Speed Radar Trailer Deployments
Service of Subpoenas
Traffic Control at Minor and Major Traffic Accidents

In addition to all of that, our volunteers are a vital part of many community events throughout the year. Their presence and assistance help ensure these events are safe, organized, and successful. Some of the events they support include:

Balloon Festivals Car Shows
Art Walks Parades
Food collection & distribution at local pantries
Toy Drives
Sporting Events
Battle of the Border Rodeo

Their dedication reflects the true spirit of community partnership and public service. We are proud to recognize these outstanding volunteers and thank them for the tremendous support they provide to our department and the citizens we serve.

Today, we stand not only as law enforcement officers, but as grateful Americans.

We wear a badge in service to our community, but we never forget that the freedoms we protect each day were secured by those who gave everything in service to this nation.

Memorial Day is not about celebration. It is about remembrance. It is about honoring the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice, those who never returned home, but whose legacy lives on in the liberties we often take for granted.

In this profession, we understand duty. We understand sacrifice. And we recognize that our ability to serve is only possible because of those who came before us and gave their lives in defense of this country.

Today, we pause. We reflect. We remember.

From all of us at the Mesquite Police Department, we honor the fallen. We will never forget.
