Office of the Milwaukee County Clerk

The Milwaukee County Election Commission is treating Monday, April 13th much like we would normally treat “Election Day” in the sense that at 4:00 PM the “polls are closed” and municipalities will transmit their election results to our office.

As always, we will have a room set-up for the public and the media to view the results on a large projector screen. We will also set-up a live feed. You will be able to view the live feed with results here on the County Clerk’s page.

We are encouraging the media and the public to view the returns this way to avoid social interaction due to COVID-19. However, if the public and the media choose to attend you are required to follow these guidelines:
• You must notify our office in writing at [email protected] so we have an accurate count of how many attendees we will have to help us adhere to social distancing practices.
• You must always wear Personal Protection Equipment consisting of a mask and gloves and adhere to strict social distancing.

We appreciate everyone's patience during this process. If you have any questions, please call 414-278-VOTE.

As your County Clerk, it is my Mission to support the legislative activities of the County Board of Supervisors and the general operations of County government and to provide the highest quality services to the public at the lowest cost to the taxpayer

As County Clerk I was charged with the task of allocating approximately 270 National Guard Service Members to municipalities that requested additional assistance. The sorting was done while practicing social distancing measures. I am truly thankful to these service members who are assisting us in these challenging times.

Picking up supplies sent by the state to keep our poll workers safe on Tuesday! Gloves, masks, hand sanitizer, wipes. Now we will sort it and distribute to all 19 Milwaukee County Municipalities. I’m glad it’s such a beautiful day!

I just received an update from the Wisconsin Elections Commission regarding election supplies. Currently the supplies, which include hand sanitizer, empty spray bottles, hand towels, and isopropyl wipes, are being opened, sorted, and repackaged by region. The trucks are expected to leave the local warehouse at approximately 2:00 pm tomorrow and then travel to the six regional national guard armory locations. We are still waiting to hear more information about masks, gloves, and pens. Thank you to everyone that is working so hard to support elections in Wisconsin, especially during this challenging time.

I offered to share our information with Clerk Trautman. Her office is experiencing the same issues my office due to Covid-19. #weareallinthistogether #governmentalcooperation

TMJ4 News

Today, as part of the County Executive's daily COVID-19 press briefings, I provided an update on how my office is proactively addressing this health crisis.

WATCH LIVE: Milwaukee County is holding a conference call on the latest cases of coronavirus in the area. LATEST UPDATES: https://www.tmj4.com/coronavirus

03/15/2020

Earlier today I spoke at Mayor Barrett's press conference concerning the upcoming Spring General Election and the effect of the Covid-19 virus epidemic on the logistics of that election (please see the video below).

As your County Clerk and Executive Director of the Milwaukee County Election Commission, I want to echo the Mayor’s comments that I too want all Milwaukee County residents to exercise their constitutional right to vote!

Elections Director Julietta Henry and our entire staff are working diligently to ensure this election runs as smoothly as possible despite these challenging times.
We are continuing to monitor the situation and will keep municipal election officials up to date when there are any other developments or recommendations.

We are scheduled to receive guidance from the Wisconsin Election Commission through the series of webinars on Monday, March 16th, focusing on contingency planning for public health issues.

We have also committed to providing staffing support to the City Election Commission if needed.

We also recently set-up a Voter Information Hotline as part of our Voter Education and Outreach Campaign to help voters get the information they need. That number is 278-8683. Once again, 278-VOTE!

I am also working with the County Executive’s Office and Administration to address all issues as they relate to the upcoming election. For example:

- I have received the commitment the County Parks Director that all County Parks facilities used as polling locations during the upcoming election will be OPEN and thoroughly SANITZED for election day.

- In addition, earlier this year the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution allowing Milwaukee County employees to be released with pay from their work assignment in order to train or serve as a poll worker. This will allow County employees who are not Covid-19 high-risk groups to step in for those that are and therefore may not be able to work the polls because of being high-risk.

When the polls close at 8:00PM on April 7th, Election Day, we are asking the public and the media to be patient as election results may not be available immediately as a result of the increase in absentee voting.

As always, the most important things during an election are:

- Exercising your right vote and doing so in a safe manner
- Having your vote counted
- And having the election results reported accurately!

Thank you all for your continued patience and understanding as we navigate this unique and difficult set of circumstances.
