The independently elected County Clerk records the proceedings of the County Board of Supervisors, maintains all legislative files, updates existing ordinances, and publishes new ordinances on-line. The County Clerk staffs all County Board meetings and County Board committee meetings. The County Clerk also maintains the County Legislative Information Center (CLIC), which provides on-line public ac

cess to legislative documents, meeting agendas and minutes, as well as, live on-line streaming of meetings of the County Board and its committees. The County Clerk issues marriage licenses and domestic partnership declarations, and registers all lobbyists and lobbying principals and reports to the the public on lobbying activity. The County Clerk also accepts applications for passports, sells bus tickets and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) licenses and permits. As an information clearinghouse for county government, the County Clerk administers oaths of office, maintains the central files for Milwaukee County reports, records, contracts and corporate documents, and receives and publicly opens competitive bids for county contracts. ELECTION NEWS – TODAY (August 11) is the Partisan Primary Election and the polls are NOW OPEN and will remain open until 8:00 p.m.

Know before you go:

▪This is an open partisan primary, so you do not need to register with a political party.

▪Select one party – Republican, Democratic, Libertarian, Constitution, or Wisconsin Green – and ONLY vote for candidates within that party. Think of it as five separate elections on one ballot.

▪Most importantly – do NOT vote for candidates in more than one party. Voting for candidates in more than one party will result in an overvote, and your votes will not be counted.

▪Not registered, no problem. Register to vote at your polling place. Bring a valid proof of residence document (commonly used documents include a WI driver's license or state ID, current utility bill (electric, gas, cell phone).

▪Remember your photo ID.

Visit MyVote.wi.gov to check your registration status, see a sample ballot, and to find your polling location.

ELECTION NEWS – Tomorrow, August 11, is the Partisan Primary Election in Wisconsin. Be sure your voice is heard and your preferred candidates advance to the November General Election.

Here’s what you need to know before you go to the polls tomorrow:

▪Wisconsin has an open partisan primary, so you do not need to register with a political party.

▪Select your preferred party on your ballot – Republican, Democratic, Libertarian, Constitution, or Wisconsin Green – and ONLY vote for candidates within that party. Think of it as five separate elections on one ballot.

▪Most importantly – do NOT vote for candidates in more than one party. Voting for candidates in more than one party will result in an overvote, and your votes will not be counted.
Wisconsin is a voter ID state – be sure to remember your photo ID.

▪Not registered, no problem. Voters may register on election day at their polling location with the correct proof-of-residence documents. Commonly used documents include, and are not limited to, a valid WI driver's license or State ID card, or a current utility bill (gas, electric, cell phone) that contains a current address.

Except for voters in the City of Milwaukee, in-person absentee voting (early voting) for the Partisan Primary Election ends today (Friday, August 7) in Milwaukee County.

▪Friday, August 7 – last day for early voting for most communities in Milwaukee County. Times and locations vary by municipality. Visit MyVote.wi.gov to learn what is happening in your community.

▪Sunday, August 9 – last day for early voting in the City of Milwaukee.

Today is also the last day to register to vote before election day! To register, bring an acceptable proof-of-residence document to your clerk’s office, or to any of the in-person absentee voting locations in the City of Milwaukee. The document must include the voter’s current name and address. Commonly used documents include a driver's license, state ID, utility bill, or bank or credit card statement.

ELECTION NEWS – Are you concerned that your absentee ballot will not be delivered on time or at all? Absentee drop boxes provide a secure, reliable, and accessible method to return your absentee ballot. If you haven’t yet returned your absentee ballot, it is likely too late to mail it. Your vote is your voice – use a drop box to make sure your ballot is returned on time.

▪Drop boxes are a secure alternative to returning ballots via mail – no processing delays.

▪Drop boxes bypass the U.S. Mail system and ensure your ballot is returned on time and undamaged to your municipal clerk.

▪Drop boxes are convenient – many are open 24/7 (except for election day) so voters can return their absentee ballots at a time most convenient for the voter.

▪Be sure to place your ballot in the drop box in your municipality – if you live in West Allis, do NOT drop your ballot in a Wauwatosa drop box. Each box is labeled with the municipality name.

▪The availability and hours of drop boxes will vary in Milwaukee County (and throughout Wisconsin) on election day. In the City of Milwaukee, drop boxes will close at 6 p.m. on election day to provide time for the specially trained election officials to gather and return the ballots to the counting location. Check your municipality’s website for drop box locations and hours.

ELECTION NEWS – Run by your neighbors, verified by you. Public testing of voting equipment is underway in Milwaukee County and throughout Wisconsin for the August 11 Partisan Primary Election.

▪State law requires voting equipment to be tested within 10 days of each election.

▪Public testing is open to the public - check your municipal website for date and times. Notice shall be available 48-hours in advance of any public testing.

▪Public testing demonstrates equipment correctly counts valid votes and rejects invalid ones before Election Day.

▪Testing days in advance gives election officials a crucial window to detect, troubleshoot, and remedy any technical glitches.

▪If you are curious about the voting equipment, we encourage you to observe public testing and be a part of the process.
