Your Items May Be Coming Due Soon!

The time has come! When libraries initially closed to comply with the Safer at Home restrictions, all checked out items had their due dates extended to June 15th, 2020. Look at your calendars, because that day, once months in the future, is now coming up! Please return your items to your local library, or contact the owning library directly if that is not possible.

Happily, resuming ordinary circulation of items means that placing holds and having items delivered between libraries is also once again possible. Because of this, the Request button has returned to the catalog. Once again you can make a request in the online catalog and have it sent to an available library for pick up.

Safety measures must remain in place for libraries to operate during this pandemic and the ability to fill requests may be slowed due to staffing and safety concerns. Some libraries in more affected areas remain closed and will not be available as pickup locations or be able to open their book drops. Those libraries have extended their due dates to September 15th, 2020. Please check online before visiting a location to confirm that their book return is open. That list is here: http://www.mcfls.org/covid-faq.asp.

Digital Resources Return To Normal

As libraries reopen for curbside service, our digital resources are returning to normal. On June 1st, Hoopla will return to a standard four items per month instead of the expanded eight for quarantine, and the bonus borrows collection will no longer be available. Happily, OverDrive checkouts through the Wisconsin Public Library Consortium remain unlimited. Get as many ebooks, electronic audiobooks, digital comics, and streaming movies as you want with Libby!

Our temporary access to Press Reader is also ending in June on the 13th, but the expansion to RBdigital is permanent. You can still access over three thousand different magazines and periodicals online by starting here.

Enjoy our ongoing access to digital content, and check out your local library's offerings as well! A full list of libraries offering cubside service and their expanding hours as they begin the process of reopening can be found here.

Library Services Update

MCFLS and member libraries want to pass along some recent changes made to library services to help our patrons and communities.

MCFLS Statement on Coronavirus and Library Services

The Milwaukee County Federated Library System and public libraries throughout Milwaukee County have been communicating on measures to address the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. Libraries across the county have been proactively following the CDC instructions and working with local health departments to safeguard their staff and communities.

Each public library will work with their municipality and local health department to determine whether to close as a result of this outbreak. Some public libraries within Milwaukee County have announced they will be closed to the public as of March 14th. Details about current closings can be found at http://www.mcfls.org/library-closings.asp. We will continue to update this site as more information becomes available. Many other libraries are altering or cancelling programs offered at their location. For more information please contact your local library.

The health, safety and well-being of library patrons, staff and communities is our top priority. We encourage concerned patrons, especially those in high-risk populations, to stay home if they are feeling ill or concerned about potential exposure.

Both MCFLS and member libraries offer electronic resources you can use from home, including ebooks, eaudiobooks and magazines:

* Hoopla Digital Resources
* Wisconsin's Digital Library
* RBDigital Magazines
* Gale Courses
* Other Electronic Resources by Library

We will continue to monitor this situation and provide further information as soon as possible. Thank you.

MPL's Mill Road Branch Preparing for a Permanent Move

The Milwaukee Public Library is happy to announce that the Mill Road Branch will soon begin the transition to a new, mixed-use building located at 7717 West Good Hope Road. The Mill Road Branch is currently still open.

As of March 6th, 2020, Mill Road will be removed as a hold pickup location in CountyCat. At that time, Mill Road library materials will be unrequestable to help facilitate the eventual move to their new location. MCFLS asks that you please consider another pickup location for your holds while this transition is underway.

If you have any questions, please contact the Milwaukee Public Library at 286-3000. Or, if you'd like to learn more about the new Good Hope branch and its features, see the library project page. Thank you!

I don't have a library card, and I signed up for a temporary digital card online yesterday. I tried signing into Hoopla, but it wouldn't let me in. Will it work with a temporary digital card? Thanks!!
Nice work with the Libby app! Very easy to use, great interface, and a great e-reader too.
