⭐️ Today ALBA hosted GE HealthCare for their 30th Annual Community Service Day! ⭐️
What an amazing day with over 100 GE employee volunteers all coming together to help beautify the school by repainting the playground, giving the new front entrance a fresh coat of paint, beginning the mural in the cafeteria and painting and staging classrooms for our newly hired teachers!
Nearly 30 years ago, GE HealthCare’s tradition of community service took root in Milwaukee. Today, that spirit brings volunteers together across six countries—and returns home to ALBA, located in the former Walker Middle School, where public education, art, service, and community meet. On this worldwide day of service, ALBA proudly represents Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and the United States. As an International Baccalaureate school, ALBA speaks a shared global language: young people can be deeply rooted in their own cultures, open to the cultures and experiences of others, and united in caring, principled action that strengthens communities everywhere.
The mural makes that global message permanent. Created under the leadership of Reynaldo Hernandez—a former MPS Walker Middle School student returning to give back—it will embed the IB Learner Profile attributes of being Inquirers, Knowledgeable, Communicators, Principled, Open-minded, Caring, Risk-takers, Balanced, and Reflective. These are not simply words painted on a wall. They represent the qualities students need to understand their world, communicate across cultures, respect others, confront challenges, and improve their communities. Mr. Hernandez’s full-circle return also reflects a larger MPS story: students becoming graduates, artists, professionals, and community leaders who return to strengthen the communities that helped shape them.
This day is significant because it connects Milwaukee’s local roots to a worldwide movement. It demonstrates what becomes possible when a global company, a public-school system, an MPS graduate, educators, students, families, and volunteers work together. The improvements made today will prepare the ALBA for its students, while the mural will remain as a lasting message from Milwaukee to the world—one of identity, understanding, service, and hope. It reminds us that our young people are rooted in their community, connected to the world, and capable of shaping its future—and that global citizenship begins with caring for the community we call home.

¡Qué día tan increíble! Más de 100 empleados voluntarios de GE HealthCare unieron esfuerzos para embellecer nuestra escuela: repintaron el patio de recreo, dieron una nueva capa de pintura a la entrada principal, comenzaron el mural en la cafetería y pintaron y prepararon salones para nuestros nuevos maestros.
Hace casi 30 años, la tradición de servicio comunitario de GE HealthCare echó raíces en Milwaukee. Hoy, ese mismo espíritu reúne a voluntarios en seis países y regresa a ALBA, ubicada en el antiguo edificio de la Escuela Intermedia Walker, donde la educación pública, el arte, el servicio y la comunidad se unen. En este día mundial de servicio, ALBA representa con orgullo a Milwaukee, Wisconsin, y a los Estados Unidos. Como escuela del Bachillerato Internacional (IB), ALBA comparte un lenguaje global: formar jóvenes profundamente arraigados en sus propias culturas, abiertos a las culturas y experiencias de los demás, y comprometidos con acciones solidarias y con principios que fortalecen comunidades en todo el mundo.
El mural hará permanente ese mensaje global. Creado bajo el liderazgo de Reynaldo Hernandez, exalumno de la Escuela Intermedia Walker de MPS que regresa para retribuir a su comunidad, el mural incorporará los atributos del Perfil de la Comunidad de Aprendizaje del IB: Indagadores, Informados e Instruidos, Buenos Comunicadores, Íntegros, De Mentalidad Abierta, Solidarios, Audaces, Equilibrados y Reflexivos. Estos no son simplemente palabras pintadas en una pared; representan las cualidades que los estudiantes necesitan para comprender su mundo, comunicarse entre culturas, respetar a los demás, enfrentar desafíos y mejorar sus comunidades. El regreso de círculo completo del Sr. Hernandez también refleja una historia más amplia de MPS: estudiantes que se convierten en graduados, artistas, profesionales y líderes comunitarios que regresan para fortalecer las comunidades que ayudaron a formarlos.
Este día es significativo porque conecta las raíces locales de Milwaukee con un movimiento mundial. Demuestra lo que es posible cuando una empresa global, un sistema de escuelas públicas, un graduado de MPS, educadores, estudiantes, familias y voluntarios trabajan juntos. Las mejoras realizadas hoy prepararán a ALBA para recibir a sus estudiantes, mientras que el mural permanecerá como un mensaje duradero de Milwaukee para el mundo: un mensaje de identidad, entendimiento, servicio y esperanza. Nos recuerda que nuestros jóvenes están profundamente arraigados en su comunidad, conectados con el mundo y preparados para construir su futuro; y que la ciudadanía global comienza cuidando la comunidad que llamamos hogar.
