You can also get nutritional benefits from frozen corn! Just make sure there isn’t any added salt, sugar, flavorings, or creams, or your WIC benefits won’t cover them.

May is Food Allergy Action Month! Lots of kids find ways to eat the food they love, even if they have specific food allergies. Oftentimes, it takes a little extra effort to make sure your child is getting enough vitamins and nutrients if they can’t consume dairy, eggs, or other nutrient-rich foods.
If you can’t purchase a WIC food item because your child is allergic to it, contact your local WIC agency – they’ll be able to help you find substitutions! https://wicmomstrong.com/
SALMONELLA OUTBREAK: Check your home for recalled Jif brand peanut butter. If you have recalled peanut butter, throw it away. Don’t eat it.

BREAKING: Infant formula rebates for WIC families are extended through August 2022 in Abbott states!
Since May is National Egg Month, here are a few nutrition facts about eggs! 🍳
🥚 Eggs contain 7 grams of protein each – that’s a ton!
🥚 Eggs contain choline, a nutrient that helps brain and memory development.

With your WIC benefits, you can purchase one dozen white eggs. The following are NOT covered by WIC benefits: brown eggs, vegetarian, organic, natural, cage free, free-range, or pasture raised; low cholesterol, reduced fat; increased vitamin E (for example, Eggland’s Best) or any other modified or specialty eggs; pasteurized in shell, hard-boiled.

Are you one of the families impacted by the formula shortage? The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends some Dos and Don’ts while the shortage persists.
For families needing donor milk or eager to help by offering donor milk (there’s also a national donor shortage), there are local organizations for peer-to-peer human milk donation. and both have local chapters to help.
For folks interested in relactation, learn more at the link in the comments. Note that relactation takes considerable time and resources, as well, so it’s important to address immediate needs first.

Celebrating Cinco de Mayo 🇲🇽 tonight?
Here are some easy ways to lighten up your fiesta.
Plan on having a Mexican fiesta for dinner tonight? South of the border fare can be nutritious, delicious and fun!
Happy Cinco de Mayo! 🇲🇽 Some ways to celebrate Mexican American culture are:
→ Create a traditional Mexican meal or snack with your little one. (You can even use WIC-approved ingredients, like 100% corn tortillas or avocados!)
→ Make a Mexican flag using paper or colored pencils during craft time.
→ Help your little one read a book about Mexican American culture (you can find some great ones here: https://www.steamsational.com/9-fun-resources-for-studying-cinco-de-mayo/).
→ Help your little one learn the history of Cinco de Mayo and its origins. Being educated about the meaning behind the holiday is an excellent way to respect the culture (learn more here: https://www.bhg.com/holidays/traditions/celebrate-cinco-de-mayo-respectfully/).
