Local beef was on the menu at Pine River-Backus Schools this past school year. The district partnered with the Headwaters Beef Cooperative and Local Farmers Cooperative to bring beef patties to their district from cows raised on a local farm. Additionally, they labeled the local beef on their menus and educated students on the benefits of "pasture to plate" sourcing.

At ISD 728, Positive Behavioral Supports and Interventions (PBIS) is far more than a system of positive behavioral interventions.

"It is the foundation of a culture where every student feels valued, supported, and empowered to thrive both academically and socially," shared Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services Jamie Nord, whose district and 14 of its schools are among those recognized as 2026 PBIS Sustaining Exemplars.

This honor reflects the commitment of schools and districts across Minnesota that have woven PBIS into the fabric of their identity, cultivating learning communities grounded in meaningful relationships, safe classrooms, and high expectations.
