This school year, KIPP North Star Elementary and Middle School improved the social and emotional climate by adding two new calming rooms where students could take a break when needed and then go back to class ready to learn and succeed. Additionally, 30 educators participated in Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training to provide de-escalation skills and one academic leader became a certified CPI instructor to provide training to others. Minnesota Department of Education staff came together earlier this month to help ensure all students went back to school with confidence. 🍎🚌

A school supply drive collected backpacks, notebooks, art supplies, personal hygiene products, and more. Items were donated to school social workers, counselors, teachers, and administrators, supporting students around the state.

The Minnesota Department of Health is hosting its 2026
Radon Poster Contest, giving Minnesota students in grades 4-8 an opportunity to get creative while learning about radon and the importance of healthy indoor air. Posters are being accepted now through November 9. Is Minnesota's assessment framework providing the most useful, timely, and actionable measurement of student learning and achievement? The Minnesota Department of Education is convening a task force to find out. The Testing and Assessment Task Force kicks off a critical statewide conversation to ultimately identify recommendations for future modernization and reform.

Congratulations to Darcy Stueber on being named Midwest Region Director of the Year by the School Nutrition Association. Darcy is Mankato Area Public Schools' director of nutrition services. Darcy is a strong advocate of the Free School Meals program and her efforts has increased student participation in school breakfast and lunch. She works to raise awareness of fresh, scratch-prepared menu items and Farm to School Partnerships.
