“If you take care of our feathers, they will take care of you.”

✨One of our many favorite activities in CLAW this spring was making Feather Holders with Juanita Espinosa.

🪶 Over the course of several days, our students spent hours carefully stitching each one together, putting as much good medicine, care, and intention into them as possible. They created these for our graduating seniors to honor all of their hard work and accomplishments. ❤️

✨It was so beautiful to witness them and their dedication throughout this process, many creating these for their older brothers, sisters, cousins, and loved ones graduating. Our room was filled with laughter, stories, patience, and so much love!

Phidamayaye to Juanita for leading this workshop and for so generously sharing your knowledge, teachings, and time with our young people.

Our Green Tech youth had an incredible experience last weekend at the 34th Annual Minnesota Renewable Energy Society Solar Boat Regatta! 🌞🚣

We are proud to share that the S. S. MIGIZI earned:
🏆 2nd Place Student Class
🏆 Best New Student Boat

What makes this even more special is that the canoe used in the competition was built by Green Tech youth during last summer’s program, and this spring cohort outfitted it with the solar equipment that powered the boat in the regatta.

This achievement reflects their hard work, teamwork, creativity, and hands-on learning in renewable energy and engineering. We are incredibly proud of our youth for representing MIGIZI with innovation, determination, and leadership.

Please help us congratulate our Green Tech youth on this amazing accomplishment!

May 5th is Red Dress Day, a day to recognize and remember our Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives. Today at First Person Productions, our students created flyers featuring statistics that shed light on this alarming and violent reality. Learning as a community strengthens us as a community.

Today should be a day when we take care of ourselves and each other, checking in on our relatives and keeping them close to our hearts.

🌱Our spring cohort at MIGIZI has started! One of the activities we’re doing in our CLAW program is our Indigenous Youth Cooking Series where our young people learn about the importance of our traditional foods and how to prepare them.

Over the last two weeks they’ve made a delicious Three Sisters Soup as well as a Wild Rice and Berries dish!🍓🫐 We’ve had so much fun getting in the kitchen, learning how to cook, and feeding our relatives.

We’ve also been incorporating our languages too!:

Wamnú (Dakota) - Okosimaan (Ojibwe) - Squash
Wazusteca (Dakota) - Ode’imin (Ojibwe) Strawberry
Psin (Dakota) - Manoomin (Ojibwe) - Wild Rice
Házatho (Dakota) - Miin (Ojibwe) - Blueberry
